Model fleets

I like small switchers, so their numbers keep multiplying. The Cedar Branch and Western is the proud owner of a number of SW's, 44 and 70 tonners. Of course, I have several of each and they look swell in a lashup struggling up the mountain with a coal train.

This is why I should have NOT modeled part of the double main track between Chicago and Galesburg, IL -- most of my locos and rolling stock were purchased just for that part of the layout. I could have saved some serious $$ if I had ONLY modeled the Illiniwek River Branch.

Oh well...I'm still having FUN (and paying for it, too!)

I currently have 9 SD40T-2s, 2 GP60s, 2 GP38-2s, 2 GP40-2s, and 2 GP9s. All of the rest I have, I only have a single model of. I plan to add more SD40T-2s, if I can find any more.

I model a "diversified" collection. Biggest: 2 woodburning American Standards, AT&SF. Also 2 (same) for V&T. Have 3 4-6-0's, but they are all different makes, and not all same RR (livery). I also have 2 GP35's, GN (greens) & AT&SF. Considering the "combo", does that count?

It depends on how many locos of a particular type my prototype had, and how many are needed to make a train look right.

I have no duplicates. No two of the same locomotive. Why? Cause the money I use to buy duplicate can go towards another different loco I may want. Example-- I'm awaiting the BLI SF 3800. I have X amount of money, if I spend it on another Cab-forward, there goes my 3800. So I'd rather have the 1 Cab-forward and 1 SF 3800 than 2 Cab-forwards.

I have a boat load of Atlas's GP-38s (30+) but now I am waiting for Atlas (I hope!) or Life LIke to come out with a GP40-2 as I need about 50 of them.

Suffice it to say I have several types of C&O units that numbers between 4 to 10 units except for the back bone of the C&O fleet.The GP7 and GP9...I have 12 GP7s and 16 GP9s I have 6 GP7s and GP9s lettered for my C&HV.

Largest class in my fleet would be Dash 9s - I have 4 powered (ok, one's an AC4400) and 2 dummy examples (not all in the same paint scheme). This translates as 2 C&NW Dash 9s, 2 BNSF Dash 9 dummies, 1 CSX Dash 9 and 1 CSX AC4400. I don't plan to buy any more, though if a powered BNSF example came up on eBay I would be very tempted to buy one to run with my dummy examples (one of these runs with a Walthers Dash 8-40B on an Auto-rack train).

I don't have too many engines right now because I recently modified plans for my freelanced railroad's paint scheme (had no idea it would be so difficult).

Loco's from connecting railroads bring trains in from staging. With 36 staging tracks and at least two locos per train, at least 72 but I haven't counted them in a long time.

I've currently got over 150 engines, which will be pared down to 35-40 layout runners and 10-15 display pieces. Of my runners, the vast majority will be of three types of engines: 8-10 NKP H-6 Mikados (USRA clones), 6-8 Berkshires, and 8-10 GP7/9/18. Even when I was freelancing, the vast majority of my fleet was going to be comprised of a single standardized engine class (10-12 Mantua Mikados).
