I just completed making 350 HO scale deciduous trees from a super crate of Scenic Express Super trees,($98) Or get a $25 box, that will produce about 60 HO scale trees. For deciduous trees, there if nothing like using Super trees for the trunk and fine branches. I would imagine that one could make N scale or Z scale trees from Super Trees, in huge quantities. You soak about three of the branches in Matte Medium, (diluted 4:1) This makes the stems less brittle, and is an adhesive. I then hold the soaked stems over the box of Super Trees, and use spray adhesive, (or hair spray), and then hold the three stems over the bag containing the fine (or Medium) WS Blended Turf, and use my fingers to sprinkle on the turf. One can then spray with spray adhesive, to finish the adhesion process. For close-up trees, I use WS Sage for the trunks and heavy branches. Bob Hahn

That's a good cheap solution for Z Scale trees considering the price for the pre-made ones. Cheapest I found run about $9 (Busch Gmbh). Others I found look about the same but are more expensive. JTT Miniature run $15 - $19 for a pack of six. The N Scale Architect charges $50 for a pack of six.

I had bought these (chenille Stems #15B543) bump Chenille. They looks like pipe cleaners but they have a different shape.  They come in a package of 12 each one size 15mm x 12" for about $1.00.  One pack can make about 48 various size cedar trees.  They come in a variety of colors.  I use the dark brown or green. You Take one of the Chenille Stems and cut them between the bumps which gives you four small cedar shape trees. I then take a brush and water base paint any shade of green.  I then rub the paint across the section of the bump to make it green then set asside to dry. Once dry I use a spray glue and sprinkel woodland Scenics fine turf green on some of them and leave others alone. They make vary nice ceder trees they can be used in "N" scale too. I'm working on a video to show how to make these trees. you can see these trees on my "Z" scale layout 32" x 72"
