Layout(s) of the year
Posted by NHRRJET on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 10:03 PM
Should MR conduct a survey (no prizes) as to what we think was the best layout of the year; each scale if possible to be represented. Or, should one be conducted among forum members? It might present an interesting cross-section of modelers and what they like. Thoughts??

I don't think it would work, especially on the forum. Only exposure we have to most layouts is pictures posted here and in magazines, which really might not give a good view of the layout and what it is. Actually, there have been some polls about what you think is the best model railroad.

Clinch is right, a year is really not the time period to judge layouts by anyway. There would have to be more catagories than just scale, it would be a mess.

On the other hand, MR could do what Playboy does, and take the 12 featured layouts, and let the readers pick from the short list. Is that what you had in mind?[swg]

Big Boy 4005:

Your's sounds like a good suggestion! Perhaps MR would consider something like that. Seems to work for Playboy!

I'll let you suggest it to Terry. You never know, he might go for it starting in 2005. Kind of a SUPER MODEL thing.[swg]

P.S. this is post 3000.

they could include it in their annual MR poll this layout of the year, but does this competition add anything to the hobby?

Thanks Lupo, its a nice round number, but at this level, I'm out of the star business. Does this mean I'm lost in space?

There's only one mountain left for this Big Boy to climb!!!! At least I don't have to hand stoke it like some people. (Kind of an inside joke.)[swg]
