Interesting Test on Resin Parts
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 1:35 PM
We always put a note in our kit instructions and receipt to not put the products in the direct sun or expose to heat over 100 degrees. We placed a variety of resin parts on the roof of an old car in the back lot to be exposed to the hot Fresno sun. In mid summer with several days over 105 in the shade, these parts laid in direct sun on that hot car roof. They must have been exposed to over 123 degrees for over a month. We figured that they would warp like a banana. The result was no warping at all. Not even on the thin flat parts. They did change to a yellow color. We are going to leave them out there until winter to see what the long term exposure will be. The resin might break down or who knows what. We use our own blend of very high quality machineable resin and want to see what would happen to the parts for back yard layouts. I just wanted to share this interesting test with you all.

Good to know! Looking forward to reading your results.

Resin kits can be delicate but the details are really nice on a lot of resin models, especially the companies that produce the resin military vehicles in various scales.

www.asmodels.com makes resin locomotive bodies. By the looks of the pictures the details are impressive. Hopefully in time prices will come down a bit.
