Nice looking bridge and the backdrop is stunning.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate that! I feel bad, since I have not made any progress on this extension room layout, but I plan to get back to it soon.

If you mean the green and red, those are pins used in sewing with the little colored balls on the ends. Since I use ground throws these show the direction of the points.

BNSF grain hoppers being switched by GP7 NSNX2012 and TexMex GP38.

Another shot of NSNX2012 and grain hoppers. The weathering on the hoppers turned out pretty good.

Nice work all around.  'Really enjoy seeing everyone's contributions here!  This is the "much smaller than I originally intended" City section of the layout.  And before you tell me - I know it's an AT&SF station.  I think the "City of Denver" is just stopping to ask directions....

Very nice looking Shay, I am considering taking on that type of conversion as well, Very nice work!!

Would the effort be about the same on the Climax?
I don't have any of the Bachmann Shay's or Climax's yet, & am not near a place I can see them in real life.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Chad

Thanks, I haven't considered modifying the Climax, so I haven't really looked into it.. Bachmann already released a 2T in the past but was plagued (like the shay) with a gear problem, that has been corrected but they haven't re-released it, many believe they will stay with a 3T Climax because it has room for sound, the 2T would be a tight fit.

I got the idea from Skip Luyk's (Arcadia & Betsy River RR) website, then he later published an article in Issue 88 of the Tall Tiber and Shortlines Gazette.  Another forum member, Graffen, has also done this modification as well.

Thanks for the compliments guys.  I haven't been back to the computer since I posted the videos.

The bridge piers are an A.I.M. plaster product  made taller by attaching them to foam bases.  I then painted and stained them with craft paint and washes.  The girder section is two Micro Engineering kits kitbashed into one span.   The trestle (which you barely see) is completely scratch built.

For those who haven't seen the whole thing, here it is.  It's changed a little since then but you get the idea.

Very nice here this weekend.  Some great photos and work being shown!

I have been doing a lot of odds and ends over the past couple weeks...  I have cut, Creosoted, and hand laid a couple hundred ties:

I have also hooked up power and finished the basic ballasting to the lower staging area.  The pencil line on the wall is where the bottom of the Upper Staging will be.  I have stained and started to varnish the baord for the upper staging, but it will be a week or two before I have it installed.  I still have a lot of things like removing stray pieces of ballast, painting the rails rusty, and adding some weed and grass there..

I'm liking that IT gon, Jeff. Looks good, having seen a few back in the day.

Thanks. Amazing what some 70% alcohol and a little black leather dye can do. I roughed up the edges with a hot soldering gun.

Here's a couple more pics of recent projects since looks like a lot of folks are on vacation. Smile  I built the Durango Car Shop, but only had room for the track to it come off the turntable, rather than as a run-through like the original.

This is the Oriental Oil Refinery. The two big tanks are made from 4" PVC caps, with added Plastruct details from the Plastruct Refinery kit that I'm still  using to build more refinery equipment. The fenc is from Walthers.

Behind the refinery and the view of the carshop past the turntable can be seen some short viewblocks I made to help "close in" the center peninsula some, as well as to guard the structures from stray elbows. I tried plexiglass, but didn't like the look. The 1/4" hardboard is cheaper and the paint is as simple as it looks, yet it works well. You have a greater sense of going places with them in place.
