Class 1 NS/CSX/CN and my own railroad because one day i plan to have a real shortline.
I like NS but CSX has the B&O.

I put other. Right now I have a 1880's mining layout. But I'm only using it as a test track right now. The layout I'm planning will be visually dominated by the loging road, but the major trackage will be a regional railroad. There will be a mining component as well.

I choose regional, but really I am modeling a bridge route owned by BNSF, UP and TP&W, with Geneese (sp) Wyoming as a new co-partner. I am angling that UP and BNSF will play nice to each other and hence want to have a east/west route in Illinios. Main reason they didn't go with TP&W is they sold their westend, and their track is in such slow order shape, a newcomer was required [:D] So enter WPG RR!!

I model the UP main line with local scenery types. Of course so far I only Have Podunk Junction on a 4x8, but it is the junction for the Simmons Pacific Railroad, a fictional short line, of my design, that will serve farms and the mines in the mountains. So am I regional, class 1, mining, or short line?

I model whatever I've got. (box cars, tankers, hoppers, passenger trains, mix)

I model anything passenger. My dad models the GN/BN/BNSF through an Iowa small town.

Im modelling a freelance bridge route in Chicago doing transfers on trackage rights between railroads from Blue island up to Whiting and Gary and also contract stack hauling ("hot-racks" as my crews call them) on the joint CSX / UP line from chicago Heights into downtown intermodal terminals.
I dont know quite what period to set it in, still deciding between "tomorrow" or 1986.

I'm protolancing the CB&Q in the 1960's.

The proto part is a class one, double mainline...

The free-lanced part is a rural branchline...and it hauls coal.

I am modeling a Class 1(Milw), but I am modeling a secondary line that has a stub end branch running off of it. No 'Hiawatha' trains here, but lots of GP9's, SD7's and other first genretion diesels. I have added 5 sound equiped steam engines over the past two years and have tried to model the mid to late 50's.

Sometimes there seems to be very little difference. Generally regionals are larger and seem to go further. As a matter of fact many noted railroads from the past might be considered regionals now, such as the Lackawanna. The WC was a classic example of a regional. Then there is my own local railroad, the Susquehanna, which nobody seems to know if it is a shortline or a regional, I've heard it referred to as both.
the railroad that inspired my model railroad is the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern, another regional line .

What about regional? That's my railroad all over. You can run good long trains but don't have to act like you have 10,000 miles of track. I checked other.

Class I. Mountain railroading as per Rio Grande and Espee. California's Sierra Nevadas (Ok, I know the Rio Grande didn't go there, but it does now) in the '40-'50 era of big steam. Occasionally I think it might be fun to go into On30 so I could model the railroad I grew up around (Nevada County Narrow Gauge), but I'm too heavily invested in HO to think about the conversion.

I prefer shortline railroads. I model the Maryland & Pennsylvania RR in S scale. I also have my freelance desires satisfied by my own road, the Deer Creek & Susquehanna RR.

I'm modeling UP, SP, ATSF, Burlington, WP, Rio Grande, and MoPAC in the 40s and 50s. So I'd guess that'd be a class 1.

I model a museum line, so I voted "other" - I find this allows me to build and run what I want to. At the moment I have a couple of 4x1 boards representing a semi-rural yard scene - based on photos I found online of a shortline yard in New York, one of those overgrown rail yards that look rural yet are only a few miles away from the city. I plan to extend with a scene of the museum's maintainance shops, and possibly an exhibition/storage warehouse building using some of the Walthers low-relief building kits.

I am using Ian Rice's idea of interchangable layouts on commen becnwork, so I model several : a shortline, 2 branchlines , and an industrial yard. what do you model ?
