Proto PA's
Posted by CP5415 on Thursday, August 26, 2004 9:40 PM
I finally got my LONG awaited Proto 2000 D&H PA's
WOOHOO!!!!!!!

This is a gorgeous looking model, but flawed I hate to admit.

I'm not sure if I should even list the differences I've seen in photo's I have of #17 just before she went to Mexico.
I love the model, I'm not going to list the differences so that I don't open a can of worms I won't be able to close.
SHEEESH!!! Here I am complaining about detailing on a model I own. WOW!
What is this world coming to? [:)]

Anyone else want to comment on Proto's latest PA's?

Gordon

I have 4 PA and 3 PB - all in UP colour.

The new PA/PB run is in one technical aspect better than the old one.

The old ones have a runout that I can describe only as UNSTOPABLE - 3 ft are normal ! [;)]

Okay, many of us will say this runout is great but this was a problem at my layout - the engines doesn´t stop in front of signals! [:D]

Don, I don't think I've ever seen Athearn's offerings yet.

I have changed the couplers to KD's.
All I need now are the two Walthers D&H coaches I have on order & I have myself a passenger train.

Don't forget to add sitting passengers.

Antonio FP-45

WHAT is the "Pointless Arrow" reference in your postings? FP-45's or PA's?

Please tell me that P2K at least put the correct grills on the #17

I have one of the old Athearn PAs (eBay, never seen them in stores over here). It's not too bad, though it suffers from the familiar reverberating growl of Athearn Blue Box diesels. I've pretty much doubled the weight of the loco with additional lead sheet ballast, so it hauls amazing loads now. I'll probably buy one of the Proto examples if/when I can afford one and I can find one that suits my collection.

Well, yes & no!

They have correct grills BUT they've added an additional porthole on the rear on both sides.
That was the first thing I saw.
However, after running the model (FINALLY) tonight at home, I've found out that it has been installed with an operating MARS light [tup]
