Use Kato. No contest.

I've been steadily changing parts of my Florida layout from Atlas to Kato track, which is absolutely reliable. I built my Maryland layout entirely with Kato and it works flawlessly. If you color the roadbed, you may even be able to get away without ballast, depending on how particular you are about appearance.

The Kato #4 turnouts do have an odd setup for their electrical switching from one track to the other. Essentially, the labels on the screws underneath are reversed, so "Non-power routing" translates to mean "Power Routing" as most English speakers would understand it. There are guides to this on the Web.

Kato also makes some of the best locomotives you can get in N scale. They're the "Gold Standard" IMHO and worth paying a bit extra for their reliability.
