Foamcore is a good choice, however you could also use 1/8 inch tempered masonite. The smooth side paints very easily and it can be bent. On my 14' long L-shaped switching layout I bent a piece of it to about a 20" radius to go around the corner.

Hi Jeremy,
You can do whatever you want it to look like, but, I would start with foamcore sheets, if you don't want to frame hardboard or masonite.
You can buy blue foamcore in some areas, if not use white and spray paint it or as I did glue some type of background prints (Walthers and several others firms produce them) to them and they will stay in place for you by screwing the bottom of them to your benchwork. (be sure to keep them square). You might then want to put a small moulding behind to tops of them to keep them aligned together.
Pretty simple, really.

Back again guys
This time I was wondering what you guys think would be the best material to use for a backdrop on a smaller 2X10 layout. I have looked through my MR and see some great plans on building some framework and using hardboard but I dont really want to get that involved on a backdrop. All I want is something simple that can be painted a sky blue can be screwed in easy to just give that layout something better to look at than a old basement wall. Any help as usual is great as I always come back to my threads over the years to check for answers I may have asked.
