I just received the new 75-year collection on DVD. I loaded disk 1 into my MacBook Pro and stepped through the procedures to install the DVD. It started installing for a few minutes then I got a popup window saying that the installation encountered an error and gave me the error number -8068. I then tried to install on my iMac desktop computer with the same results. I am running the latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Anyone else having this problem?? Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Does it say it's Mac compatible? I sure hope so, because we use Macs here.
Richard
Yes it is supposed to be compatible with Macs, it comes with 2 sets of instructions. One for PC and a second for Macs. it goes through the standard Mac installation menus, but then fails after a few minutes. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. Bill B.
How bizzare, there was a thread about this exact topic in the last two days. Then this morning there was a thread saying problem was fixed. I hate how threads just disappear off this forum so everyone has to repost the same stuff a second time.
Bill, can you take a look at the install.log in Console to see what it says about error -8068?
Applications>Utilities>Console, then expand Files>/private/var/log and look in install.log.
No need to post the entire dialog, just the line where -8068 is mentioned. It should give an event name along with error code.
Also, check the permissions for the folders the DVD installer has already installed. If the permissions are Read Only, that will cause the installer to fail the installation, because it can't finish writing the files it needs to install.

Thanks, Bill. I'm not really sure what is happening to cause the installer to fail.
At this point, all I can suggest is to make sure everything on your system is up to date, including OS X, all Adobe products, and the Flip4Mac plugin. I'd also suggest clearing the caches (using OnyX or similar software), rebooting, and trying the installer again.
If the installer continues to fail, you may need to contact Kalmbach directly to see what the issue is.
As an aside, I'm starting to wonder if this a problem with 64 bit compatibility? I wonder if anyone has successfully installed the DVD under Lion?
Bill, are you running in 64 bit mode on either machine?
You can download the Microsoft Windows Media Player plugin - Flip4Mac from here -
Windows Media Components for QuickTime
Hope this helps,

Where ever you go, there you are !
The first thing I did after I received the error was to install the latest version of Flip4Mac, but that did not make a difference.
I have rebooted and tried it on two different machines with the same results. I keep the auto update on both machines, so my OS is up to date.
I think I am going to wait for a response from MR, I have emailed their help desk. I will post what they recommend here in case someone else has the same problem. I am sure that I will not be the only one with this issue. I know the MR staff uses Macs, so there must be a way to get it installed.
Bill
I don't get this "installing" business. I thought you'd just stick in the drive, and away we go. I'm not buying it if there's a bunch of rigamarole just to view it.
Martin
Don't base buying decisions on ANYTHING on one person's problems, that's pretty silly. Of course you have to install something, this isn't just a bunch of scans of old magazines, it's indexed and content searchable. You don't have to install it all, but it does run faster off a hard drive than from the DVD, because hard drives are MUCH faster, but you don't have to copy all the content if you don't want to.

Jim,
Is that an Intel or PPC iMac?
