My wife shows Dogs and every couple of years we will have a litter of puppies. Over the years three new owners of the pups have been Train guys. One was from Victoria, one from Washington State and One from California. We still exchange E-Mails and photo's of our layouts.
We currently have a litter right now in the family room. I am wondering if I am going to meet any new train guys.

There are only three things I miss since I left NY. Lupo's Spiedies, Cortese Pizza, and basements.
Fortunately the weather here in NC is nice enough that my cars don't mind living in the driveway so the two car garage has become the train room.

In this part of Texas, anyone with a basement would call it an indoor swimming pool. Maybe not so much during this drought year, but normally a basement would soon fill up.
I do miss the basements of my youth in the northern Illinois area, but don't miss the cold/snow that went with them.

Here in the Chicago area, nearly everyone has a basement, but they are almost all below grade, so there is no way you are going to see lights on in the basement.

That is funny....when I head to work in the early AM hours and see a fluorescent glow coming from a basement window, I always wonder if they have some kind of grow operation going on. LOL

If there are any residential basements in Clark County I have never heard of them. As for garages, the only things I have ever seen through the open doors are motor vehicles and junque.
There ARE model railroaders here - but they either run garden railroads (in yards bigger than mine!) or build in spare bedrooms.
My empire is in my garage - the door of which is permanently bolted shut.

Lucky you guys, we don't HAVE basements out here in SunnyCal. We have garages. And since nobody ever parks their cars in their garages, I always keep my eyes peeled to see if the garages are open and if so, perhaps some kind of table or around the wall shelving or anything that looks as if it just might have plaster mountains on it, LOL!
