I would resort to the use of a needle file or the sice/edge of a Dremel tool burr or cut-off disk.

Best way for trimming stainless steel tabs on details?

When assembling thin metal details - the detail part in question is the BLMA window air conditioner units, and I believe they are stainless steel (whatever they are, the metal is fairly tough) - I can cut pieces out using a heavy duty hand-shear (looks like a pruning shear).

Unfortunately, assembled, one of the tabs sticking out the back of the detail is too long, and I need to trim it down (some of the tab must remain for alignment). Since I did not trim the tab before I assembled the unit, and since it really can't be bent down without distorting the unit (I tried to no avail), and since I can't get the (rather large) shear in close enough to trim correctly, what would be a good tool, technique, or tip to trim this tab (now, and for fututre detail projects).?

Thanks
