N-Scale prefab layout question

I bought one of those Life-Like suitcase layouts complete with trains transformer and buildings in a compact unit. The train consists of a diesel engine and three cars. There is a slight grade and the train won't go up the grade. It will only pull one car. Got any advice on how to get the full train up the grade?
