another train forum I participate in has quite a few guys that love the Tyco engines and should be able to help you.  I dont want to mess up any rules by posting a link to that forum here so PM me if you want the website.

It's almost already in there witht eh Tyco F unit article (drop back to the top of one of the stories I linked, there are several others on that site) - he compares the Globe to the Tyco, and later an AThearn (which came fromt he Globe version).

Some interesting info I found - the first release of thse used a Rivarossi drive, not the Tyco power truck:

Wow, that has to be one of the most interesting things I've read in quite a while.  I have no idea why I find the history of model trains so interesting, but I wish someone would do a history of Athearn F units to the same level of detail.

You may want to check the TYCO Forum, where some TYCO railroaders may be able to give you some advice. (not to suggest there is anything wrong with THIS forum, of course) Cedarwoodron

The gearing in Tyco's Power Torque trucks was unchanged in its design for the 20 years it was made. Millions of them are out there, and you can get a working Tyco diesel to use as parts for $5 to $10. Any Tyco diesel with the PT drive will work, but be careful not to get one with the older Mantua designed MU-2 truck. The MU-2 truck is better with its larger motor and direct worm drive, but it won't do any good with the Super 630.

If this is the Power-Torque drive you should be able to scavenge the gear you need from the drive truck of another Tyco loco even if it isn't the same model as yours. Many of the locos with Power-Torque drive used the same gears.

Tyco has been out of business so long that your only hope may be to purchase a used one at a swap meet or yard sale and exchange the shells.  I have seen Tyco models going for less than $1 each at some swap meets, but most of them have burned out motors.

TYCO 30-Tooth Drive Gear Replacement
Posted by B30-7CR on Saturday, October 22, 2011 10:14 AM

Hi all

I was trying to get an old TYCO Super 630 running again and I knew one of the gears was messed up or missing. I finally got the guts to take the pancake motor assembly from its cradle and poke at the gears. As it turned out, one of the 30-tooth gears, specifically the one from the large gear on the flywheel, was missing a lot of teeth, therefore not generating torque to the wheels. The motor is fine, however the light doesn't. I'm not concerned with the light, but the gear I kind of need. Does anyone know somewhere I can find a gear for this?

Crap happens. When it does, stop, take a deep breath, and call the wreck train.
