I was informed by Randy in the Walthers service dept that they had sold out all the PK2 axle gears they inherited from Life-Like. They are doing another run on the 4 truck gears including the wheel sets and expecting them in shortly. As far as he knows all the life like 6 wheel axles are long gone and right now Walthers does not have any plans to manufacture more. Bill
Proto was a Life-Like line that Walthers took over. You should be able to get replacement parts from them. If they can't help you, you might have to replace the whole truck.
But before you do, try NWSL. They have started carrying some upgrade gears / wheel sets.
Elmer.
The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.
I need several plastic axle gears for the Proto 2000 6 truck diesels. I'm aware of the Athearn replacement for the 4 truck models but they won't work on the E unit 6 truck loco's (this from my own experience and info from Randy in Walthers service Dept) Anybody know of a different Mfg part that will work. I am willing to change out the whole truck assemble if necessarily. Thanks Bill
