Sorry, to hear about your mother passing. I lost mine after taking care of her while she was suffering from cancer, and a host of other illnesses. You have given her a great gift, allowing her to spend her last days at home with family that she loved. I know how hard it is to do that as well as how important it is for the person that you donated so much of your time to.

I hope everything goes well with your move and your new job.

I, too, send my condolences, Tom.

In this case, I am sure it was something of a blessing, especially after her stroke.

My mother had Multiple Sclerosis and for half her life she was wheelchair bound. I helped take care of her as a kid and young man til my father retired completely and could care for her 24/7. SHe had mini strokes the last 5 years of her life {by then a long time quadriplegic form MS} so her speach was gone, her only good faculty connected to her sound mind. But the final one took away her rational speach and made her life miserable living h-e-double hockey sticks. WHen she passed in 2003, it really was a blessing in a not so disguised disguise.

I wish I A} lived closer; and B} had the room for the layout, I'd love to give it a new home!

I think it great you want to give it away instead of chopping it up for dump fodder.

I hope you suceed!

Tom, my sincere condolences also. I was in a similar situation, caring for my father for awhile. I hope that you're dong ok overall.  You're obviously a very good son and whether or not your Mom was able to express it, she must have been proud and appreciative to have your support and help all that time.

. Perhaps if all else fails and no forum members ask for your layout/materials, a donation to a local school/club or scout troop would be of help to you and a possible tax deduction?

Hang in there. Hope you find peace and a new home of your own in the North lands.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I think my mother loved trains as much or more than I did/do.  Never had a real sceniced layout for her to see.

Best of luck on you move.  Lived in Columbus my last year in the AF.

Now you will get to start a new series of posts on WPF.

Good luck,

Richard

Sorry to hear about your Mom, Tom.

Good luck with the move & house hunting.  It's a strong buyers market here in Massachusetts, maybe Ohio's the same.

Tom, sorry to hear about your loss.

I thought you had disappeared from the face of the earth!  Moving back up north, maybe you can get a train room with a house on top of it!

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's been a rough year. I've got 2 really nice job offers from old bosses in Columbus that I can't pass up. Wish I could take the layout with me but it's just not practicle.  Might have to drop back to a 4x8 to keep myself amused during those cold Ohio winter months. I've got 3 years worth of kits and detail stuff to keep me busy now that I'm not a major care giver.

I just dusted off my Browns, Indians and Ohio State Buckeye hats in preperation for the move!

And YES BRAKIE!!! Can't wait to get back to the sleet and snow and overcast gloomy skies of OHIO!!!
Hopefully I can find a cheaper forecloser home that I can buy instead of doing the apartment thing.

PS- I do check in every week for WPF! I just haven't posted much lately. My hats off to all the new forum members (and old ones) that are posting pics of such outstanding work!! Keep up the great work my friends!

My wife and I also send our condolences on the loss of your mother.  It must have been a very difficult time after caring for her all this time.

Hey Tom,

I am very sorry about your mom.  I do hope that the sale of the house (and the dismantling of the layout) will go quickly for you.

And, we up in Buckeye country will welcome you with open arms, LHSes...and snow! Big Smile

Tom,

my sincere condolences to the loss of your mother!

I don´t think either that you are violating any forum policy and I am thankful that you offer your layout to a member of this forum. Not all of us walk on the sunny side of life these days, and there may be a person who will be able to become active in our hobby through your generous gift.

I hope you will be able to resume some MRRing soon!

Good luck and best wishes!

Yet, Another unfinished layout...
Posted by loathar on Thursday, September 15, 2011 3:14 AM

Hello all my model railoading friends! I know I haven't been very active on these boards lately. Been going through some tough times. Some of you old timers will remember I've been living with and taking care of my mom. She recently fell and broke her hip and then had a massive stroke and died.
Now we need to sell the property off and that means tearing down an 8x15 HO layout that isn't anywhere near finished.
If there is anyone in the Lawrenceburg Tn. area (38464 zip) that might want the benchwork/track and some scenery FOR FREE, please contact me through my Email on my Trains.com account.

I don't think I'm violating any terms of aggreement with the forum since I'm giving the layout away for free. (if I am, please remove this post)

I'd rather a forum member make use of it rather than it going to the dump. Photos can be seen at my photobucket page.

(hope that works OK.)

Look out all you Ohio'ans!! I headed back up to the great white North where you all have REAL hobby shops!!

Thanks for looking
Tom
