Sound Decoder Installer Recommendations

Regarding Sound decoders.

While Soundtraxx makes some very good decoders, avoid using the "L" or "LC" series decoders. The price is lower because a "smaller" amplifier is used in this decoder. I heard an HO locomotive equipped with one of these decoders and I was dissappointed. (Once you hear BLI diesels you become spoiled!---But I do prefer Soundtraxx decoders as you have a selection of diesel locomotive horns to choose from)

Since the Soundtraxx Tsunami decoder is not available at this time, go with the DSX decoder. It's a "Sound Only" decoder that must be used in conjunction with a standard motor control decoder like a Digitrax 163. The quality and "intensity" of the sound is better and installed properly can be impressive! The key lies in the baffling. [;)]

The above mentioned vendors sell baffles as does Soundtraxx but in many cases you can build your own.

Amen to the above. Bruce at Litchfield Station is my choice. He is presently doing a Stewart FT-B unit in wall to wall sound for me.

I have had good experience with Tonys, Loy's Toys, Litchfield Station and DLA. thier servies all seem to be comparably priced.

I am interested in having my Atlas Master Engines upgraded to sound decoders and prefer to have it professionally done (at least at this point since I am at the bottom of the hobby learning curve and don't want to take any chances messing up an expensive purchase). I have looked at a few websites for installers/vendors, so I have a basic understanding of what it involved but was looking for insight on the best way to proceeed or specific recommendations for businesses from whom members have had favorable results.
