The surgery itself is fairly minor, but I can't go back to sea since I have to be available for follow up appts and treatments.  I should be back to normal speed within a week to 10 days.  Then we gonna have some fun!

Good for you!

Keep tuggin'

9 stall roundhouse?  Sounds like a steam time period, but when?  Transition era? Pre WWII?  What region and railroad are you modeling?

It is more of a freelance effort than a specific prototype or time period.

Tugboat,

Excellent (though I pray your surgery goes well).  It is a good feeling to be able to jump back in; especially with time available to accomplish it.  As Rich suggests, please post photos.

tugboat,

I feel your excitement.  It is never fun to be out of the hobby, even if just for a little while.  Good luck with your surgery and subsequent recovery.  Wow, 8 weeks is a long time to be away from work.

Keep us posted on your layout progress and be sure to share some photos.  I, too, have a fairly large freight yard, 9-stall roundhouse and 130' turntable.  That is one of the focal points of my layout.

While you recover, make sure to have plenty of reading material around to pass the time and get some railroading DVD's for that flat screen TV.

I had to take a break from railroading last winter as my wife and I remodeled the house.  As part, the train had to come down.  I was extremely saddened by this.  However, the house is now mostly done.  We had a hiccup last month when our AC quit on us, but now I'm back in the train room.  I have rebuilt the benchwork and as part of the remodel, special lighting was installed in the train room.  The entire room was painted a beautiful Carolina blue as the base for a background.  Also, in one small corner i just installed a flat screen Wall mounted TV and stereo. (Gotta watch my Tarheels play basketball!) This gave me another whole wall to EXPAND as I got rid of the furniture holding it.  I had recently changed to DCC, so with the new benchwork, I will completely redo the wiring with this in mind.  I have spent my spare time over the last 7 months planning the new layout.  Pretty much the same track plan with the addition of 7 feet of wall that will house a multitrack train yard with a turntable and roundhouse.  I tore it down with a heavy heart, but I am now excited and ready to kick off a new building boom.  I am actually having minor surgery next week, but it will keep me out of work for 8 weeks.  Guess what I'm going to be doing just as soon as I can sit at the workbench.
