SBCA I recently tried to order some MEK to thin barge cement for some track handlaying, and they wouldn't ship it to me in California. Any other state, and I could have ordered it. Times are a'changing!

I get my MEK (for plastic cement) from a hardware store - try ACE or True Value. It should also be available from a regular paint store.

SBCA -- you know that Google results are shown in the order of "relevance", then by activity on the website. Some companies change something on their site every day so that they will show up higher on search results.

And thank you too CTValleyRR.
I can't live without google, believe me : )
When I couldn't find them at first, I was suspicious they were only available in the UK, as they were showing up sooner in searches there (as mentioned above, I was paranoid they were disappearing from the US market...).
Thanks Bob. I downloaded the Testors PDF catalog. The paints seemed to be categorized by "theme", so I wasn't finding them easily on their site. Also, I was searching under Dark Skin Tone, rather than "skin tone tine base - dark".
I keep hearing all of this discussion about solvent-based paints being an endangered species in the US, and was hoping these paints are still available, as I'm just going to be getting started with airbrushing when my airbrush arrives next week...
Alright, I'll be placing an order for the colors Pelle Soeborg uses as a start...
James,
A Google search is always a good idea. I'm an acrylic guy, myself. However, when Testors stopped producing some of the PollyScale military colors, they sent me a handy cross reference to paints in both lines. They said it would be on their website, but I haven't seen it yet. Except as noted below, these are all manufactured for the US market.
Model Master Flat Gull Gray -- Available in Acrylic 1/2 Oz Bottle (PN 4763), Enamel 1/2 oz bottle (PN 1730) or Spray Enamel (PN 1930)
Model Master Sand -- Available as 1/2 oz enamel (PN 2053)
Model Master Dark Skin Tone -- No longer manufactured. They have a Skin Tone Shadow Tint in both acrylic (PN 4604) and enamel (PN 2004).
Model MasterEngine Gray -- Available as Acrylic 1/2 oz bottle (PN 4749) or Enamel 1/2 oz bottle (PN 2034)
I have seen all these on hobby store shelves in acrylic in the last year (I didn't look for enamel). Hope this helps you find some.
Do a Google search. There are a lot of sellers on the Net that sell these colors.
In his books and MR articles, Pelle Soeborg has recommended using the following colors:
Model Master Flat Gull Gray
Model Master Sand
Model Master Dark Skin Tone
Model MasterEngine Gray
These are all solvent-based paints. I am not finding these available from any American distributors.
Does anyone happen to know if Testors does not distribute these colors in the united states?
Maybe it's time to find some Floquil equivalents?
Thanks,
James
