Re-powering the Walthers SW-1
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, July 30, 2004 2:11 PM
Hello Everyone;

I just took delivery of a Walthers SW-1 from an e-bay seller. It's a never been run model in great shape (and a great price!). However, on the rails it's performance wasn't so good. It took approx 1.5v just to start it then it would wobble down the rails terribly. I traced the problem to the plastic tube drive to the rear truck. Once I removed the tube and the rear worm gear, it was 100% better. The rear truck is now an idler. I'd like to install a universal coupling to the rear truck. Has anyone out there tried this? Also, the Mashima motor cogs a bit. Anyone done a re-powering on the 'ol SW-1? I'd sure appreciate your help.

Many Thanks

smyers;

Walthers still has a few of the universal couplings left to replace the tube, call or e-mail them.

The stock motor is a good as any every put in a model locomotive. The cogging is not in the motor.
