I just do what the majority of the voices in my head vote on.
Great work this weekend. No pics from me but I added led's and decoders to my gp-7 , s-2 and gp-30 over the weekend. I also weathered a dash 8 and a sd-40 and started weathering a gp-7 and gp-18 and will start on the other 7 and 30 this week hopefully.
alco's forever!!!!! Majoring in HO scale Minorig in O scale:)
Been a while...
I built two Queensland Rail 'VBO' ballast wagons over the weekend. Considering I hadn't built a kit in over 12 months I'm pretty happy with them.
They started as kits, assembled them, hand shaped wire brass hand rails, painted( hand painted brake wheels and hand rails), and decals added. Now all I need to do is weather them and dull cote them. I have weathered the wheels and side frames already.
From this...
To this...
They are HO (3.5) which is 12mm gauge to represent 3' 6" in real life. Models are manufactured by a good friend of mine Adam Wuiske.

Jim, I like that building. Is it a kit? If so, who made it?
Good photos and some great modeling again this week.
Not much doing on the BRVRR lately. Here are a couple of photos from a recent operating session with the oldest grandson:
NYC #9519 at the head, rounds the curve at the west end of the BRVRR layout...
as NYC caboose #24534 crosses Olive street.
Keep up the good work guys. You always make SPF the best thread of the week.

wholeman What did you use to close up the pilot "slot" around the couplers. I have an Athearn Blue Box GP38-2 that is already decorated that could use something like that. Thanks.

It's just styrene cut to shape. 0.020" thick x 0.080" wide on the sides, 0.080" x 0.100" on the top w/ a 45-degree bevel cut along the top edge. For another option, Details West makes this commercial part that should work nicely:

There's also another DW part #363 called "Scale Coupler Loco Pilot Buffer Plate," but I couldn't find any pictures of it so I don't know what it looks like.

Maybe a little soon for me to be posting picture of my weekend fun which consisted of mostly construction, and a little bit of play. My trains are offically running as of tonight though not completly yet but enough I can run them while I am waiting for scenery to set. Hope I'm not out of line here I am still new to the fourms and just trying to be a good sport. The structers are only fill ins for now. they are from my first layout I threw together

Evening, all!
Several great photos (got a chuckle out of the Sasquatch one...), and Robby, good to see you're weathering again. Crandall, love your 'aerial' pic - how'd you get the smoke on that (or are you a PhotoShop guru)?
I've been doing some structure-building myself lately. I'm currently putting together the Woodland Scenics "Rocky's Tavern" (white metal) kit, but it'll be next weekend before I have pics of that. These photos are of what will (I think) become "Big John's Stacks of Wax" record shop once I get the sign for the front wall done.

That is exceptionally nice looking water. Can you tell me what colors and other materials you used?
Thanks!

This week I started decaling my SCL U36B. I was intimidated by the thin yellow striping, so I procrastinated and put off decaling as long as I could. It was a PITA, but I managed to get the last of it on tonight. I just put the herald on the nose, but still have a lot more decaling to do. Still haven't decided on a road # yet. I'll sleep on it tonight and decide in the morning.
Here is a "before" shot from a few weeks ago before I painted it.
Here is what it looks like now.
Richard- I probably won't end up modeling the line at all for awhile. Several years ago I had planned on modeling a fictitious branch of the line, and would use 2 chopped nose units for power. That's when I bought the pair. The first unit received the beginnings of the chopping but that was halted soon after, and sat on a shelf for awhile. This engine was originally a high hood, and for a time wore the livery of 7801, but that was stripped when the weathering of the unit went badly due to outside airbrushing conditions that were less than spectacular.
Here is a shot of 7801 from awhile back, before it became what it is now.

Guilford GuyNice car George. I always thought bluebox cars were decent for what they were. The really only noticeable difference to me is the cast on grabs.
I agree. Hard to see in the photo, but I shave off the cast grabs and replace with brass wire.

Alex,
Nice to see the Lamoille Valley being remembered. I am hoping to find one of its predecfssor, StJ&LC steam locos on a day when I can afford it. Have only seen one or two over the years.
Will you model the Wolcott covered bridge?
Have fun,
Richard
Wow, beautiful work here this week. Who says we don't work on our layouts once the weather gets nice?
Here's another in-progress picture of the swamp and small woodland which will fill in an awkward dead spot on my layout:
The water will surround a small island where the dead tree stands. About halfway between the tree and the lower left corner is a flat area where the beavers will build the dam which is causing the land to flood in the first place.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

0-6-0 Sir Madog that is a very nice looking loco could you tell me more about it please. I am not sure what it is. But I like it and would like to see if I could fined one in ho. Thanks Frank.

Frank - it is an N scale model of a Japanese National Railway Class D51 Mikado, made by Kato, selling for about $ 120. As HO scale is not very popular in Japan (and it is not 1/87.1, but 1/80), HO models are rare. Kato did produce a HO version of this loco, and will eventually re-release it, but you will have to calculate with a price above the $ 400 mark for it - see here
Mike- Nope! The Lamoille Valley, a shortline operating in northern Vermont in the 1970s-1990s, used a variety of neat ALCos, including 3 which had their noses chopped.
The model of the specific unit pictured below is still under construction. The one awaiting primer had the different headlight arrangement as modeled.
Lee- That roundhouse scene is really coming along. It's always a pleasure to see the circus alive and well.
Monkeyed around with a little sound...
