My B&O custom painted, super detailed Stewart F3A with a Kato drive. Smooth as silk runner and the paint job came out top notch.

My Monon BL-2. It's at least 10 years old, and was one (If I recall correctly) of Life-Like's first locomotives in it's Proto series. I just added new wheels and gears to it; it runs perfectly.

Well, I've got a few.

For Alco power, I'm fond of the RS-18 and the M420W. The M640 is also a special one.

I'm also a fan of F-M power, especially C-Liners.

And then there is the GMD-1. And I do like the Draper Taper SD's, as well as the Dash 8-40CM.

I like the 'low horse-power (1000-2000HP)' switchers and road-switchers locomotives, which more or less were build in the 1960s/1970s (GP-15-1, GP38-2s, SW1000, SW1500, MP15DC - yeah, mostly EMD).
I prefer these types because they are what you mostly see on shortlines, terminal roads, industrial parks, i.e. carload type railroading (as opposed to 100 car long 5unit spline intermodal units, which wouldn't quite fit on my layout). AFAIK, not too many left on Class I railroads (certainly very low ratio compared to the > 4000HP units).
Since the newest low HP units are getting on 30 years old, every so often new low HP locomotives are built in small numbers (MK1500, GP20D, Green Goat) - hopefully some model will catch on...

I like the GP7/9 as a all round locomotive.I always like the Alco RS1 as well. For a switcher I like the SW1200 or the SW1500.
As far as switchers the MP15, GP15 and GP38 or GP38-2 fills the bill nicely for more modern railroads.

(nedarb, Southern Pacific Daylight is a paint scheme. You are probably refering to the GS-4 4-8-4.)

My all time favorite locomotive would be the Santa Fe 2900 class.

My favorite model locomotive could be the BLI AC-5, once I work its problems out and fini***he weathering.

Any ALCo, except the PA, yes is may seem sacreligous for a ALCo fan to say that but I am sick of people oogleing over them, just like the Daylight.
I love the smell of ALCo smoke in the Morning. "Long live the 251!!!" I miss the GBW and my favorite uncle is Uncle Pete. Uncle Pete eats Space Noodles for breakfast.

One of my favorite locomotives is the old GE C-30-7, I absolutely love to hear those big G"s accelerate a heavy train out of a yard, The Ca-Chug, Ca-Chug, Ca-Chug of that big four cycle prime mover is music to the ears, oil streaks, black sooty exhaust, and the sound of the horn, seeps deep into the soul, and is the stuff dreams are made of, Gosh I love railroading, don"t you

For me it would have to be the ALCO PA for Diesels especially the D&H ones & any Canadian Pacific Steam locomotive in the maroon livery.

Gordon

Brought to you by the letters C.P.R. as well as D&H!

Illinois Central's GP-10's (Paducah rebuilds) with their unusual duct work across the long hood. I also like any EMD with torpedo tube air tanks on the roof.
