I am not holding my breath because the cable car power truck appears to be somewhat taller than the 44 tonner unit. My biggest fear is horseypowers. The Cable isn;t intended to pull anything, so it may be engineered down. But with enough weightm that still might not be an issue. And I don't think it is too tall, considering it has to sit under a ful interior.

The last he told me is he is looking for a TWO MOTOR for a particular project. He wants to make a Critter. You cannot do that with a single motor 44 ton.

I e-mailed Bachmann to ask them if they would be making them again and they said no. I just scored an older 44 tonner on eBay and have bids on three more. Hope like heck I don't win all three other bids - that will blow my budget for a long time to come!
These people have more than 30 of them in stock with different road names. Here's some of the links but there are several others. They are about 10 minutes from my house and have been around literally for 100 years. They quite often have hard to find stuff in many gauges.

NWSL has a beautiful Stanton drive. Wheel base is 9', 9' 6" or 10'.
A fellow in a Yahoo Group is using them for a MDC boxcab shell rather than using the Spectrum 44 ton under the boxcan shell.

I guess at the moment, finding an old 44 Tonner is your best bet. If it still runs well, chances are the gears will last a long time. I'm guessing this is for the Mack 15 Ton critters?

For the rivet counters, yes I know, this should be in the DCC Electronics forum but he wanted help.
The motor issue I had is a brush holder will hang up and seem like a burnt out motor. Touch the brush holder again and it works fine. From what I have seen, many do not take the shell off the frame and check the motor brushes.
You could check with Dave at NWSL to see if he has the geared wheel sets. I bought some geared wheel sets for a Walther's FM diesel. Dave is putting a list together of the different geared wheel sets he has for certain diesels.
Pictures below for the clueless. A Digitrax DZ125 is wired into the loco. Very good control.
Remove the caps from the motors and lift out the motors. Cut the clips to isolate the motor. Solder #30 wires to the motors and pickups. Be careful with the soldering iron, not a solder gun.
You will NOT find these motors at NWSL.
I bought my two motor off of eaby but saw a photo of the bottom of the loco and saw that it was a two motor. Look at the photo with two motors. They will be like that when in the loco frame. There will be ome on ebay for sure. The single motor will be different.

I bought one on ebay years ago rather cheap. I decaled and added more parts as NKP 90.

With no more replacement parts available I might just reconsider that project. I guess if Bachmann changed the design there must have been a problem. Dave

I don't know the specifics of what you need, but Northwest Short Line and other companies sell motors, gears, flywheels, etc. in a variety of sizes. I'd bet you can find something that will work.

Be advised, the older 44 ton are two motor and have motor issues and cracked gear issue. Has happened to me and many others. Ask seller if two motor or one motor. If they do not know how to tell, pass and move on.
You want the one motor. I have two of those.

There are also 3 other 44 tonners for less money but the vendor for two of them says that they have been sitting on a shelf in his hobby store since the 1980's, and the third is described as "vintage". Cavet Emptor! The power trucks for the older Bachmann units are no longer available so you had better hope that they are still in good condition. I am going to take a chance on the older ones because I want the power trucks to make critters. Hope ya don't outbid me!
Any ideas where I can buy a Bachmann 44Tonner online. I'm looking for DC. I realize that this is "old technology ", but, I'm an old guy.
