Poison Ivy already ! How did you get that modeling railroads ? Geez thats a bit too realistic
When we still lived in our house, my MRR year had two seasons. Spring, Winter and Fall was dedicated to working on my indoor layout, Summer was split between yard chores and operating my live steamer on my (small) garden layout. Now the house is gone and it´s MRR time year around...
jrf Well unfortunately, yes I said unfortunately I don't have a yard to take care of as I live in an apartment complex so all of the yard stuff is taken care of. However since my layout is in a climate controlled area and I'm sure many other peoples' are as well one could "work" on the model RR to get out of the blistering sun and heat. At least that would be the excuse I'd use...

I agree with John living in apartment gets rid of those pesky yard chores. My old house kept me from my trains most of the warm months, now I just crank up the AC and let somebody else sweat in the heat.
There is no such thing as a bad day of railfanning. So many trains, so little time.
Yep - been doing lawn clean-up, GEEZ, what a winter we've had here here in Minnesota! My lawn looks worse then when I was at Paris Island mortar range! We had about 84" or more of snow in the Twin Cities area. Thanks, Dave Dahl. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ROUTE ROCK!
Believe it or not, I look forward to mowing season. I mow quite a bit for my parents, other relatives, and a neighbor who is incapable of doing it himself. The money I make from mowing helps support my train funds.

Yes it is cuttin' season - I took the plow off the Simplicity and put on the mower deck and all the "Deere" have run away.......Chris
grizlump9 pray for a teenage kid instead. i give him about 100 bucks a month and the missuz chips in a bit and i haven't worked in the yard for years. i get to play with my trains, she gets to play with her dolls, and i have no idea what the kid plays with. grizlump

I have a teenage son, too, and believe me, you don't want to know!

Son usually brings his lawn tractor over to do the lawans. My tractor is bigger and so are my fields. However, whenever not haying or fixing, the current train room is in the cool cellar, a great place to hide. Dream trainroom is on second floor. May have to keep a small layout in the basement to pratice on during the heat.
Have fun,
Richard
mobilman44 Hi! Down here mowing time ranges from March thru November with maybe one mowing a month in between to keep the weeds in check. I've got a fair sized yard, and have always done my own yardwork. Actually, on our street of 22 houses, I am the only one that does not use a yard service. The truth is, it is a source of exercise and having grown up without a yard, I still enjoy taking care of one. But you are right, it does take away from train time, so I try to make the time I spend on them more productive. Ha, sounds good, doesn't it ???

The weather where we ar the mowing has already started. I am trying to figure out how I can start a new layout project since I have come to terms with the Vice President on the turf in the basement. Mow or tear down the old lay out and start a fresh. I can see some discussions coming up in the future about which is more important. I know which will win already.

TA462 My layout is going into hibernation very soon.
My layout is going into hibernation very soon.
I could never do anything that dumb. My layout has always been ready to run regardless of what season it is.
From November through March Is to cold for yard work or model railroading. Spring and warmer weather is for model railroading, yard work and Giants baseball.

Since my 'lawn' is gravel, I don't have any of that seasonal distraction from working on and running the railroad. My wife is the gardener - and her garden consists of fruit trees and perennial flowering bushes, all surrounded by gravel.

With the opening of the patio yesterday, the signal says.....time for outdoor trains!
HO in the basement, G in the yard. Sadly, yesterday (high of 84 and beautifully sunny) was spent doing landscape, patio opening, smoking a stack of ribs (boy were they good!) and cutting out two bushes that the Domestic CEO deemed expunged. Not a lot of G modeling yesterday, and boy...does the ballast need attention!
Soon we will be adding a new branch line, and solving all of the civil engineering problems REAL weathering brings....
Enjoy!
See ya in the back yard.
Winter is for skiing. Summer is my season for modeling and running trains.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Love the thoughts of freshly mowed lawn, the sound of rain birds watering the lawn, a cup of coffee, and a modeling project at the patio table on a warm spring morning. Yes its a bit of work, but to be enjoyed Take care...John
80 degrees here for a nice spring tease. Summer is when the coolest room in the house is the basement. Great place to hang out and run some trains.

When I get done with the Lawn (only about 1 1/2 hr when the wife and I both run the Cub Cadets) then the rest of the week is open for what ever!
When it gets hot here I just go to the basement as it is a minimum of 20 degrees cooler in the basement (er - train room)!

I love riding around on the John Deere for an hour or so every week. It is the most relaxing time I get as no one interrupts me to do things for them that they are quite capable of doing themselves. I spend the time thinking about the next project on the layout.

Nope. I've got someone I hire to do my yardwork that I've had the past three years and does a very good job.
Summer is when I can open the garage and REALLY get to work on the trains for two uninterrupted months (barring a Central Valley heat wave, of course, LOL!).
