Spectrum 4-6-0 driver sizes
Posted by richg1998 on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 1:44 PM

A question in another forum gave me the thought to check my two Spectrum's with a digital caliper.
The  high boiler is advertised as 63 inch driver. Mine measures out at 63 inch.

The low boiler is advertised as 52 inch drivers.
Mine measures out at 55 inch.

In case there are any rivet counters here. Not a big deal for me though.

For those not familiar with this loco.

The Spectrum 4-6-0 come in two versions. I have both.
Low boiler and high boiler. Not really high or low as you would think. Large driver and small driver gives the impression of high/low boilers
Only higher or lower above the rail head, not above the frame.
The high boiler is 63 inches drivers. Mine measure at 63 inches.
The low boiler, advertised as 52 inch drivers but mine measure out at 55 inch. I double checked with my caliper.
The high boiler has the larger tender.
The low boiler, the smaller tender.
I compared the tender size in photos before buying so I had each version.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
