free websites?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 6:41 PM
Does anyone know of a place on the web where I can make a website to post my layout photos? I have seen a lot of poeple on this forum with a website for their layout and I was wondering where I can do that for my layout.

You could use Geocities but they don't allow direct photo linking. I would recommend either Photobucket.com or Webshots.com

Webshots doesn't allow me to post photos directly on here. Are there any ones that can?

freewebs.com is another option. i kind of have a fantasy sports website on there. haven't updated in a long time though. i'm pretty sure you can upload pictures on there.

i'm hoping to start working with my trains a lot more and hopefully getting out and taking pictures of real trains as they roll through town. if that all happens i might try and create a site for my train stuff.

Today, Free is worth exactly what you pay for it. I pay $80 a year to railfan.net and have found it to be well worth it. Most free sites have limitations, real limitations. :-)

I don't have a site (YET) but I'd say railfan.net and trainweb are your best choices.

hopefully they have unlimited space for pictures.

i also hope to have everything kind of started tonight so i can get a link out there.

well looks like i'll be sticking to freewebs as the others one just don't interest me all that much.

Are you using Freewebs or Photosite? I have used Freewebs before and it lets you download only 5 pics before it starts charging you. But it is easy to use and it isnt a very high price.

If it is train related I will give you 10 megs space, 100 megs transfer for free if you put one small text link on the pages.

If you are looking for a place to host your pictures only, and then be able to post them on the forum, try shuterfly. It great, you can host a lot of pic there, even have a mouse pad made with your layout or a calendar made of your layout.

There is one fellow offering "Free" web space at http://www.modelrailweb.com/mainline/layouts.htm. It might be something worth looking into to see if it's what you want.

woohoo! I picked www.photosites.com to post my layout pics. It came out pretty good, i just have to figure out how to add text. Here are the websites I made.

My train layout website: www.greenfieldline.photosite.com
My Star Wars Jon "Dutch" Vander action figure website: www.dutchrules.photosite.com

Enjoy!

you know how to add a new paragraph and everything right?

there is a little icon where it looks like a sunny sky or something there's grass. should say insert picture when you hold the mouse over it, its on the bottom row of options, to the left of the 123 icon.

all you have to do is click that, upload your picture, submit it and then click on it again and it's inserted onto your page.

did you find the icon that says insert picture? its on the bottom or second row of icons. it has a tree, blue sky, and grass on it. click that then you should get a box that pops up. it will give you a list of picture that you've uploaded. on the bottom of that box it should say upload picture. click on that. then another box should appear. that one will have a button that says "Browse" click that. then search through your files and find the picture you want to use. double click that or open it and then on the bottom of that box, the one where you clicked "Browse" it should say "Submit" in a little tiny box. click on that then it will be uploaded. now back on the first pop up box you find that picture and click it. it should hopefully be on your site then.

PS. i just added 3 new pictures to my site. nothing special though.

Nice website Hawks. The pictures are pretty good. Too bad I don't live in an area with a lot of train activity that is easily accessable. [:(] Maybe the next time i visit my grandparents I can get some pics of the Amtrak and CSX( I think) that passes through up there.

well i don't live in a place with a lot of activity either. i just sit around and wait for a horn then i'm in my car searching for the train. there are only a few spots that are good, unfortunately tonight those spots are being used by sporting events. both are by baseball fields. so now when i hear the whistle tonight i have to get to an intersection and fast. should be real interesting to say the least.

let me know if you need help at all with your webpage.
