I've been plugging along on my new layout. This weekend I put up the backdrop. This week I will start installing the foam scenery.
A shot of the old backdrop used;
I wanted to give using a photo backdrop a try but I think it is going to be a little too much for me right now. So I'm going to do another painted one. It should turn out fine but time consuming.

A bit late, but here's my addition, taken while the paint on the scenery was still drying.
A ex Santa Fe FT Rent a Wreck waits on the main as a hotbox gets attended to.
To finish this scene, I have to ballast and paint over the blue of the foam. A project for when I get some more greenbacks.
Long story short I need to build an underpass for my layout before I can start the rest of my benchwork as it is on a tangent in the middle of a curve and will set up a lot of the basic groundwork for the rest of the layout. all the pieces are just mocked up and in no way in final position. The ties are just sitting on the top of the girders to see how they look.

Nice work everyone, especially some excellent track work out there.
I've been quite busy this weekend trying to convert a bunch of worthless Bachmann 40' gondola into CN Drop Bottom Gondola from 1931. Each car have a total of 250 new handmade styrene parts (I counted them!), including small 2x2mm nuts... Probably my most crazy kitbashing project until now. I would say the modification is completed at morethan 80%.
I also did a little touch up to 4 other Bachmann quad hopper repainted to CN scheme and upgraded. Why Bachmann? A friend of mine gave me a box with 4 x the same B's CN trainset... I need hopelessly gondolas and hoppers for the layout... and kitbashing is fun.
The new Massey Harris dealer is under construction... Scheduled opening for tomorrow.

Earlier this month, the first of VIA Rail's rebuilt/refurbished LRC coaches was released from IRSI in Moncton, NB, and is now around Montreal for crew training and testing. With the release of this car, we got to see VIA's new LRC paint scheme. Not wishing to be outdone by the prototype, I whipped out one of my Rapido resin LRC cars, and set about repainting it. I had a bit of Testors "Chezoom teal" left over from another project, and it matches the green "Renaissance" paint on the new cars nicely. I sprayed it over the blue, stripped off the old decals, and added new VIA Rail Canada emblems. I also added a thin yellow stripe swiped from a Microscale CN locomotive set.
Here's a quick photo of the finished car:
I'm also almost finished a CN C44-9W, an Athearn model to which I am adding a Kaslo CN-style "tear-drop" windshield cab, and some other details. The cab has been sprayed red, the ditchlights and plow are on. Now I just need to paint the cab roof and nose-top black, add the cab interior, wipers, and decals, and put it on the loco. If all goes well, I'll have photos of it ready for next weekend.

I saw one posted like you did, & eventually found a few on eBay. I just checked & there is one on there now. Good luck. They are listed there from time to time. I think I mis-printed, they are 'Reel Rides' as they are modeled after TV & Movie vehicles. Hope that helps.

With some talk about GC Laser kits on another thread I thought I would show what I did with mine.Here is an Ath Ford with a GC Laser Corn/Coal bed on it. The Ford was a Wrecker, I shortened the frame slightly, added Plano (Ford C) Mirrors (after an accident with originals), painted the fenders & weathered the cab unit. I pre-painted the GC Laser bed before assembly, & the underframe was cut down to fit nicely on the Ath chassis. Then A-Line mud flaps were added. The chassis & grain body still need some weathering. The Chevy Truck is marketed as "Real Rides 'Dazed & Confused' 1/87 Chevy C-10" I made it look like a C-20 4x4 by replacing wheels & adding bigger tires from a Busch tire load set. The background AC4400 is just a plain Kato lightly detail weathered using ink washes on the grilles & trucks, but not airbrush or dust weathered.

Just 'lil ol' me again..........
Tonight I fabricated an Armstrong Tool Holder as one did not come with the kit, added more oil stains on the wall and around and on the lathe, and placed the oil can and tools where they can be reached.... Also touched up a couple other details.
If I spend this much time with details in every building I will have to live to be 120 at least to get the layout done!

Thanks. The track is in use. My weathering stops at the top of the rails. The ballast is gray grout. The garbage and debris lying around is filtered from the contents of my shop vac. Mike.

I have just been piddling around with Engine House/ Workshop again.... (I have been at several other projects, but nothing photogenic on them.)
On advise from a friend who has decided to mentor my work, I have been adding some stuff to the lathe area:
He didn't like the look of the metal I was doing so I repainted the brass and steel looking items with a combination of Gunmetal and Blue/Green Patina. Comparing side by side with a photo I have of a belt drive shop, it came our as good as I could do I think:

Here are some progress shots of my farm area. I just placed the buildings, vehicles, and cows to give me a sense of how it will look. I still have quite a bit of work and details to add, but it's coming along. The tractor is a matchbox from my child hood. Hopefully I find a suitable replacement.

Mine shows Santa Fe 3755 moving slowly alolng a tight curve on the Sentinel Colliery switchback.
