Body Shell ID help needed
Posted by KenK on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 10:52 AM
I acquired a Bev-Bel GP30 body shell. I have an old (mid-70's) Athearn GP9,
a similar vintage GP35, an old Atlas GP38, and a new Atlas GP40.
This Bev-Bel (#9600) body won't fit any of these chassis. Does anyone know
what it will fit?[?]

i know that at one time bev-bel painted up bachmann GP-30 shells. at that time all bachmann made was their train set GP-30, but now they make the spectrum one that will accept the same shell, or you could use an athearn GP-35 chassie with their new thin motor. the older GP-35 that you have most likly has their older fater motor that woulnt fit under the hood of the GP-35 shell you have. the shell may not be a perfect fit on the GP-35 chassie and it may require minor modifactions, but nothing big... i beleive bev-bel used to sell their GP-30s on athearn GP-35 chassies.
hope that helped a bit

Ken;

BevBel used the Kader Industries GP30 shell. Kader made GP30 for Lionel, and owns Bachmann. The shell is scale width, so it will not fit the Athearn GP35 frame without the some machining of the frame, and the narrow motor (introduced in the SD40-2 20 or so years ago must be use).

The shell cannot be modified enough to fit on an unmodified Athearn GP35 frame.

PPW/A-line offers complete chassis, just the frame, and other components for the shell:
http://www.ppw-aline.com/LocoChassis.htm

Other chassis choices include the FRP GP30/35 chassis (FRP has been out of business for many years), the Bachmann Spectrum GP30 (updated version of the same shell), the Bachmann GP35 (and Plus version), the LL Proto 2K GP30.
