20th Century Limited
Posted by pjk1649a on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 10:02 PM
Hi,
I would like to buy an HO scale model of the 20th Century Limited steam train. Does anyone know of any train model companies that sell this set?
I'd appreciate any help you might be able to give.
Thanks!

I don't believe a set is available but you could "build the train" as many modelers have done.

The attractive smooth sided "Two-tone" New York Central cars from Rivorossi would work, however, I think the sleeping cars are in short supply. Check the Walther's catalog or their website. You could also check e-bay.

For the steam locomotive, Broadway Limited has the New York Central Hudson that's equipped with an impressive sound system, though it's not streamlined as was the prototype Hudson that pulled the train at 100m.p.h speeds.

New York Central later used the 4-8-4 Niagara. A big beauty! I believe "Bachmann" makes or made this locomotive.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Please let us know of your progress.

Cheers!

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"

Philip:
When you refer to the 20th Century Limited steam train, you have to be a bit more specific. There was the heavyweight Century usually hauled by a J3a 4-6-4; and then there is the streamlined Century with a Dreyfuss styled J3a and lightweights.
