dti406Matt, Thanks for the information, I was unable to find any photographs and guessed at the number, at least I will get the other car lettered correctly. I had this car in progress before I joined a railroad club in the area where there are a couple of CNW/CGW fans. So if I read this correctly the black/aluminum should be #17-26 with the Lucky Strike Herald. Rick

Rick,
Yes the series 17-26 is perfect for the black/aluminum scheme with the Lucky Strike. There are some good photos of CGW airslide 21in the CNW Historical Society "Final Freight Car Roster" book- as well as this one online at rrpicturearchives taken in 1990 of that car.

I look forward to seeing your car when it's finished! I've done two of the newer Athearn airslides in Milwaukee Road schemes, and I'm still considering doing a CGW as well since I model the CNW.

Motley Eric, You're first WPF? Wow, that's a really nice night shot. I really like that scene. Great work, and now that you got the ball rolling with WPF, keep it up man. I love night shots, I wish more people would do them. Don't see too many around here.

Thank, I will be posting more, I finally just got a new battery for my SLR, my old one was dying and appeared to not get things just right in focus or shutter speed.
G Paine ClinchValleySD40, I like the operating signals. Are you using DCC to run them or some other system?

The two in the photo are only hooked up through the Tortoise to indicate switch position. Someday we'll get the home signals connected to detection, but for right now, only intermediates really work as they should:

nordique72 Rick- The Oddballs set for some reason has chosen to replicate a very rare pair of airslides in the CGW 3-45 series of cars. The first group numbers 2-16 were delivered in April 1957- they arrived with Roman black extended lettering and no CGW "Lucky Strike" herald on the side. The second group, numbers 17-26 were built in March 1958. They were delivered with extended black lettering and CGW "Lucky Strike" heralds on the side. All cars in the 3-45 series were painted Aluminum with red primer undercoats. The third group was a two car delivery 27-28, which came in August 1960 is the scheme that the Oddballs set recreates- these cars were delivered in the same layout as the 17-26 cars with extended Roman font and the Lucky Strike herald, but instead of black lettering they had Dupont Orange lettering according to the mechanical diagram. The following deliveries in June 1963 (cars 29-34) and September 1963 (35-40) were the first to be delivered with condensed Roman black lettering so that the "C" and "G" in CGW were on the same panel of the hopper. They also had small periods behind each letter of CGW. These cars also had the "Lucky Strike" herald. . The last group of cars, numbers 41-45 arrived in July 1964 also carrying the condensed lettering scheme. Photo records of the these variations of schemes (except the orange lettered cars) can all be found online at the various freight car photo galleries- wonderful work on your other models! Matt,
Rule 1: This is my railroad.
Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
dti406 Here are the cars I just finished and put together recently! Eastern Car Works 2600 CF Airslide Hopper, lettered with Oddballs Decals. Why the CGW would use light yellow on silver is beyond me. Can hardly make out the lettering on the car, most were painted black on gray, that will be the next Airslide I do.

When hosting ops sessions, guests frequently ask to bring some of their own power to run. Yesterday a group from mid Ohio made the drive (4 hours+) through snow and ice and brought along this vintage Clinchfield set, seen here entering the siding at Ben Creek while a Detroit Edison coal train waits on the main.
Nice work all! I've been upgrading my N scale equipment with Full Throttle Z scale couplers and BLMA and Fox Valley Models wheelsets.
The car on the left has BLMA wheelsets and the one on the right still has its stock Atlas.

I just finished the last building for my town - Robert's Used Books. I just have to apply the signage and detail it a little more.
Awesome work everyone. You all just get better and better.
Here are the latest additions to the BRVRR locomotive roster.
The A-unit I posted last week is an Athearn BB kit that I detailed with a Walther's dress-up kit. I added the train phone antenna and the air hose. The drive is original Athearn with a TCS T1 decoder. The B-unit is also a BB (dummy) kit that started in NYC livery. I stripped and painted it with custom mixed Brunswick Green to match the A-unit and added the Microscale decals. I installed the rails/grabs from the dress-up kit. It has metal wheels for electrical pick-up, a Soundtraxx DSD-101LC decoder and a 1-inch speaker inside. The locos are linked together with a Miniatronics 2-conductor plug/wire set which gives them 16-wheel pickup. They are shown here rounding the curve at the West End of the BRVRR layout.
Keep up the good work guys. This is always the best thread of the week.
Remember its your railroad

The work in this thread is absolutely outstanding!
No model railroading for me, mostly because my budget is dried up for the time being. However, I have done some upgrading to my website.

Jody;
Thank you. Actually I purchased the JL pumps because I did not think i could do a good job painting/detailing the ones that came with the kit. I did not realize that overall they would look alot better, including the pump handles and hoses.

That sure is a purdy engine you have there Crandell. I picked one up recently myself, only I have the gold scheme. Perhaps mine will be nice n black after a little electronics updating.
Crandell ........ that's a great shot of the turntable.
Here's one more view of my junked vehcles. I still like the 1920's delevery truck in the back that I made a couple of weeks ago.

That's great. So the photogs can not only experience the sight and sounds of the railroad, but the smells too!
How thoughtful...

New addition to my layout from Christmas is the A&W Stand. The train crews now have a place to go to "Beans" a railroad term for eating out while on the job.
Many great photos were added since I was here yesterday. Outstanding, everybody.
Thanks to all who commented on my scrap yard scene.
Terry in Texas asked about the crane. It is an inexpensive Walthers; Life Like; SceneMaster constrution set (433-1322). Eventually, I would like to change the crane's rigging which looks toy-like.
Happy Model Railroading.
Speaking of laser cut kits here's my 2nd attempt at one and my second attempt at posting on WPF. Bud Smiley's by Bar Mills. My first was an easier kit, Swartswood Junction, available through the Old and Weary Car Shop. By the way the pumps, drum and oil can display are by JL Innovative.
