Athearn is going to release an upgraded RPP GP35 in its R-T-R Line. Will check the email I saw on this for the roadnames. Harry Wong should be posting his photos on the web from the Seattle Show soon.

Roadnames will be AT&SF, ACL, B&O, CP, D&RGW, and Milwaukee Road. DCC ready, directional headlights, photoetched cab sunshades, die cast metal air horns, see through radiator and dynamic brake fans and RP-25 wheels. Due in August 2004 at $84.98 retail.

I am guessing that this is an early phase unit and you can hope that there will be another release with different roadnames to come.

If MILW is one of the roadnames, it will have to be a Phase II unit to be accurate. (MILW had only Phase II GP35s).

Phase II GP35s haven't been done yet in plastic in HO, so this would be a welcome development.

I'd also expect EL and RI to be offered at some point, since these roads also had Phase II GP35s.

Well looks like my C&HV will be getting 2 or 3 GP35s to replace some old and worn Alcos..

Also, MyMemoirs Video (the firm who is doing the video series on my SP Siskiyou Line) shot some video footage from the Seattle Train show of the new Athearn GP35 prototype model they had on display. I'll let you know when that footage gets posted.

Should be in a few days.

Forgive the question, but does it also come with a cab interior?

I wonder if it is so totally retooled that they reduce the body width to prototype dimensions. When you run older Athearn with P2K you really notice the difference (Athearn was made wider because their 1960s era electric motors needed the width. Eventually they got narrower motors but it was too late to change the tooling on the older GPs and SDs).

The shell will be the one from Rail Power Products (RPP), not the old Athearn widebody. Athearn purchased RPP a while ago and is slowly bringing some of the shells to market. The RPP GP35 shell is scale width. The CF7, GP60M and GP60B are some of the RPP line that Athearn has already put their stamp on.

Did I not reveal this in another forum? Athearn did not do this because they're so good looking, they really wanted to compete with the rest of the world! What will happen to the SD45, after we pay to much for it!! Talk about a responsive unit! Take the Athearn SD 45 downgrade, and see not to apply braking! And...So! Put the Rail Power body out and see who buys it! Yes the Athearn GP35 is a scale model reality! and so I wi***o see it in the same paint schemes I always had to suffer with. I gave the Athearn GP35 away as a unpowered unit to a telegrapher, on the SCL railroad. I'm glad to see the unit I never saw on the real railroad, remodeled! Enjoy Your Geep! ACJ.
