All I can say is At least he's having fun with his money. He's also helped the hobby by being open with his addiction to trains during his interviews.
Springfield PA
Like I said, he is talented but in reality the money helps in hiring folks to built the scenery, benchwork and wiring and of course get the real estate for the large layouts. Let's not kid ourselves.
He is not only an extraordinary singer, but also a good model builder.
It is nice to have him acting as an ambassador for our hobby!
A FULL HEAD OF HAIR??
Oh my, oh my, I forgot about that!!
That's REALLY not fair!

Scottish Tartan, but who's keeping track? He comes from the Great of Brittan.
He has money- that many of us GAVE him by buying his records and listening to his music over the years; He has talent as a singer with a raspy voice and good looks that turns women on-that many of us don't have; He has a full head fo hair that has no end in sight that many of us don't; He has respect worldwide, though he's had a few stumbles along the way; He can hire anyone to do anything for him he wants, and pick out what to do himself: He sells: magazines, Cd's, videos and tickets to shows easily; he still has energy enough and desire enough to still do it all; and the greatest hobby on earth. What more could he ask for? ANother locomotive? WHo wants to be the first to give him for next xmas? Huh? huh?

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
The guy has two magnificent layouts in two beautiful homes in the two greatest countries on earth, decades of all the gorgeous women he can handle, most of the money in the world and the smarts to know what to do with it, a job he loves, a hobby he loves even more than his job apparently, the admiration of the English nation and a lot of other people....and obviously he's a lot better looking for his age or any age (though maybe shorter) than all of us put together.
Ha! What's the problem!!
As Rod pointed out in one of the articles on him, he may have less time to spend on the hobby compared to the "average" modeller because of the amount of travel he has to do etc. Looks like he's done some great work, and (as with many large model railroads) had had some friends help in out.
I'd love to see pics of his U.K. layout, it was mentioned in one of the MR articles that he had another layout in his home in Britain. It would be nice to see video of both layouts too!!

I guess one has to really wonder!

CNJ831The reality of the situation here is that it was NOT Stewart's money that created his fantastic layouts, but rather the man's actual talent as a model railroader. Any amount of money will never supersede modeling talent and personal creativity when it comes to building your own layout, although sadly many today seem to think so.
Well stated. I must say, though, that if I had half the cash and modeling talent as he does, he'd still have twice as much as me!

I suspect he made millions off "Maggie May"..Its still a big hit played quite often on the local Golden Oldies" station and I believe its one of their most requested songs..

Forty Niner No one is taking anything away from his modeling talents, but to say that "money" has nothing to do with it is sort of like saying oxygen and hydrogen have nothing to do with water.......... Again, give me unlimited funds and I can show you an award winning model railroad layout every time. I think what he's doing is great, not particularly my style, but still a very impressive layout. Apparently a lot of those English "rock n rollers" are train buffs of one type or the other. Kudos to them!!!! I'm still puttering in my basement trying to get my layout built without the benefit of a staff or unlimited resources, but I also know I'm not the only one in that boat. Mark

Mark, money only gives one the ability to hire others to do the work and simply owning someone else's efforts does not make one an accomplished model railroader like Rod. You'll discover this with time in the hobby.
Over an extended period any model railroader with an average income and an abundance of real talent can create an outstanding, world-class, layout if he so desires. It is only when the hobbyist's obsession becomes needing two, three, or a dozen, of every new high-end item and to make purchases that far exceed his and the layout's actual needs, does excessive disposable income honestly begin to factor heavily in to the equation.
Even if I had his kind of cash to be spent on MRRing, I doubt that I would start to build a layout as large as his. I´d be in position to come anywhere near a completion, unless I had a team working for me on the layout. Would it be "my" layout then?
Good things come in small packages!
If I even had a fraction of his cash, I could build a mean layout!
Interesting question ... what would our layouts look like if we had Rod Stewart's money? Quite possibly still not as nice since he clearly has talents of his own, and has a grand vision of an end goal that might not occur to us.
Dave Nelson
Yup, just shows what you can do when you have more money than you can spend at one time. Give me some of that "spare change" and I'll have a kick$1***$2layout too!!
Shoot! I'd even have DCC as long as I had someone else to fix the bugs and do all the work.
It's kind of like Mel Brooks said in one of his movies, "it's good to be the King"!!
Until I hit the lottery though I guess I'll just keep "puttering" around in my basement like everybody else does.
Retirement doesn't pay a lot, but I have lots of free time..........
Whoooa, after going through that fact sheet on wiki, about Rod, I know he has had a few ladies, but geeeeezus "8 children from 5 women since 1964. And there all models, must be rough...
Wait, it gets better, he's expecting a newborn this year! That's gotta be some Hugh Heffner stuff there man.
He's a player! Where does he find the time to MRR? Maybe he doesn't sleep?

He's very creative and talented but he gets a lot of help on the benchwork, wiring and scenery per the articles in MR.
Yep another Model RR in his house in Epping, Essex England.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Stewart#Personal_life
Scroll down a few lines and it mentions his RR in calif. and the one in England.
Nor bad for an old guy in his 60's. I can say that for I'm 75.
No pics of his RR based on Britain's Coast Mainline, but I'll bet it's all decked out.
Geez it's all I can do to keep a 4 X 8 going let alone two RR's in two parts of the world and all those singing performances and all the women in his life.
All I can say is keep it up Rod.
Wadda ya mean I'm old ? Just because I remember gasoline at 9 cents a gallon and those big coal burning steamers.
