Open up the loco and check for electrical continuity between the track and direction relay. Then check the relay to see if it is properly energizing. Finally, check for voltage between the relay and motor. If all of these check out OK, then the motor brushes may need replacing.

I have a Lionel 8632 Locomotive that is not working. I have checked the transformer and track connections for contact - all are OK. Any suggestions on next steps in troubleshooting the locomotive or transformer?
