At the 2009 Amherst Model RR Society Show in W. Springfield, MA, on Sunday afternoon two groups were competing for the longest HO scale pull. I think they got up to 600 - 700 cars before calling it quits. Maybe someone from AMRRS is on the forum who remembers the details.

I would have liked to see how they coupled the engines, bet they did not use Kadee's!

Unfortunately not, Ken.
I have seen it on TV some years ago, how Marklin had it all set up. It was certainly a spectacular event that made it into the Guinness book.
Ulrich, any video of the engines pulling the real freight car?
It may not be the longest train, but in 2007, 200 Marklin class 143 electrics pulled a real railroad passenger car. The car weighed 48 metric tons ....
This is the type of loco:
About half a century ago, the 1:1 scale Norfolk and Western ran a 500 car train. Shortly after that event, THE Model Railroad Club ran a 501 car HO train, just to top the N&W car count. Haven't heard about any longer HO train since - but I'm not plugged into the master data base, HO isn't my scale and I could easily have missed some more recent record.
Thanks TZ.
I was only off by a couple thousand cars and the scale. I appreciate the input.
A search on Google or Amazon for "longest model train" come up with this:"

It is on this site even.
I saw an article this last week on MSN about a new record for Ho scale :26 locomotives and 4000 cars or something totally awesome like that ,and now I can't find anything about it on the web. Does anyone have any information on this?
Thanks, Philip
