How did this happen? It appears the lead engine was running backward and the second engine jumped the tracks. I can't figure out how they ended up like they did.

The last picture it appears a signal aspect has survived the crash in between twoo jackknifed cars.
Still no word on the cause huh?

Dougal posted this over on Trains. In the discussion there it was suggested that it was the trailing unit in a consist and the lead has already been removed, since the SP unit is on the ground also, or that they were DPUs and continued pushing after the cars went to ground, causing the accordian effect.
