Matt,
I actually asked the same question a few months back and got some great positive response on the product. So I used it on my layout and it does work as advertised. It is easy to mold and cut but it does stick to itself rather easily, making mistakes hard to undo. You can easily lift the track off before really pressing into place, but once you solidly press the track into the roadbed, removing it becomes a challenge. I have yet to ballast, but it is my understanding that you won't get a realistic coverage of ballast without using glue. It will hold a small layer without it though. I'd so go with it! It's a great product!

Hello,
Anyone out there using AMI Instant Roadbed? I am looking into using it on my layout because it seems easy to use, and less of a mess than the traditional cork roadbed and ballast with diluted white glue. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Matt
