I like the Corner Stone and DPM kits from Walthers. Easy to put together and look impressive with some weathering.

Planning on buying a batch of these kits for my new layout.

I was in St John, NB this past week and visited the LHS in Rothesay. Nice little store, Anyway they had just brought in several new laser cut wood kits from Branchline.

All I gotta say is WOW! I'm hooked, beats plastic any day of the week! Todat I called my LHS and ordered the Blair Line, General Store which is also a laser cut wood kit

All I can say is WOW!!

I derive great pleasure from building structures. I have been working on a couple of the JL innovations laser cut kits and have really enjoyed them. I guess it is time to start my first kit bash which is a mine complex.

Most are from store bought, plastic kits. I intend to do some kit bashing/mingling to fit. I'll also incorporate unused walls into urban backdrop "flat fodder". I've also left intentional blank spots here and there around the layout for future acquisitions, scratchbuilt structures, and occasional craftsman style kits.

I mostly have kits but I know that most, if not all, will be kitbashed in some fashion or another. I will scratchbuild where I think it is important to a scene.

I think you need to add the category of "kit bashing"...I do a lot of styrene plastic and or balsa wood scratch built buildings but my favorite is kit bashing...it's kind of a toss up between store bought buildings that are kit bashed or scratch built...Chuck[:D]

All my buildings are kits. I'm a beginner in the hobby and I'm planning to do more kitbashing and some scratch building as I become more proficient.

I did not vote, as I have plastic, wood, and paper, plus cardboard mock-ups. The plastic buildings are from kits, the wood from "cratsman" style kits, with some bashing involved, and some are scratchbuilt...

Of the six structures on my layout right now, three are scratchbuilt completely, one is constructed of DPM modules and scratchbuilding components, and two are kits. I have a bunch of kits and a lot of scratchbuilding material.

I model to create a scene and a FEEL. Where kits are right, I use them, sometimes modified greatly.

Mostly kits but those on my previous layout were kitbashed to fit the available space. Also, they are all repainted and weathered.

Most of my buildings are kits... the most recognizable kits you can think of! Atlas station, Merchants Row, etc. Aaah, but they all went through a little dose of kitbashing and there's more to come... just wait till you see what I'll do with an old Mantua coach.
I always wanted to scratchbuild structures, but there's this detail that always bugs me, windows! whenever I want to scratchbuild a structure I want to use as few commercial components as I can, but window frames are so darn hard to make from balsa and cardboard... especially if you're a nervous chap.

All of my buildings are either scratchbuilt (preferred) or kitbashed.I have one un modified building on the layout ,but only because I bought it built and haven't got the time right now to modify it.

I like to build them myself. I find the design fits better if I can custom fit into the space I have. Also, I have alot of fun creting the buildings I want to see. It is alot of work but I really enjoy it.

I started with all of my buildings from the shop but in the course of time have substituted most of them by homebuilt buildings. I use wood (Northeastern equivalent) and polysterene. Reason: most of the plastic kit buildings available do not fit on my layout where I want to position them and moreover I like designing and building these buildings as ifthey are specially constructed in that particular spot.

Must confess my layout is still in the planing stages, but have built a few buildings for my clubs layout and they have, for the most part been "store bought kits". When the time and funds become available for my home layout, buildings will most likely be kit built with "kit bashing" incorperated to suit the needs and most will be lit and have the interiors detailed. I have some kits I bought, but the layout is not far enough along yet for buildings. Then I'll build the kits and do some scratch building, which is what I have done in the past.

I voted "from shop", since at least all the materials in my buildings came from a hobby shop! I used to buy all kit buildings, and either build them stock or kitbash, but I've since discovered just how easy and enjoyable it is to scratchbuild. Most of the new buildings for my layout, with the exception of the new Branchline houses (which my wife "insists" on buying me as presents - bless her heart!) will be scratchbuilt, including one large brick union station, a roundhouse, and several large factories.

All my buildings or structures are either kits or kitbashed in home.
I build when I feel I can or need to fill a space or void on an area.
Some of my buildings are very interesting as they do not have normal
shapes. I have curved, triangled , trapezoided, and round to fit in.

Right now all are bought from a shop, but on my next layout I'm going to scratchbuild alot of my buildings, as I want it to be fairly close to the prototype.
