The pulldown menu under "Resources" at he top of the page shows up fine on the Safari browser on my Mac.  Either the issue has been fixed or it is an IE issue.

Which version of IE? IE6 is outdated and no longer gets updated, and should no longer be used. Eve Microsoft says so. However at least one major nationwide bank supports only IE6 for their web site. Glad I don't bank there, with IE6 there is a far greatly liklihood of virus and spyware, and password grabbers. Even IE7 is getting long in the tooth considering IE9 is in beta now. Everythign works fine with IE8, and I have no issues with viruses or spyware. At LEAST step up to IE7 and banish the old hole-filled junk.

ANd before someone chimes in thwi the "don't use IE" mantra, try using old outdated versions of Safari or FIrefox on modern sites. Just as bad.

The version of IE is 7 and it is the only browser available at work on our network.  As I mentioned, I have a Mac at home and will see how it works on Safari.

Craig Kuhlow

- I fixed the line breaking issue when writing a post.  Any line break you write in the text editor will now appear properly in your post.  This will automatically get fixed in all previous posts as well so you shouldn't have to go back and fix anything.

Quick note too.  If you ever want just a single line break when typing instead of a new paragraph (equivelant to 2 line break) you can acheive this by holding down the shift key when hitting enter.

Craig,

Thanks for all your hard work on the site.

I don't think this one is fixed, though.  I'm still having to manually enter an extra CR to get a blank line between paragraphs (as you can see from the formating of this post.  The do show up "correctly" in the text editor.

I can't get the html codes to work--I know that they are on the message bar but I have gotten used to using  ([b][/b]. [i][/i]), and (

). They work like a champ over on Atlas.  I have yet to try special characters such as (alt>0276) or (alt>0475); I have, for the moment, misplaced my sheet containing these symbols but when I find it Ill try it!.

I'm using IE and can't see anything under the pull down menu when I click on the "Resources" button at the very top of the page.  I will try looking at this on a Mac using the Safari browser later and report back.

I see some others have complained about it, and I will too.

The pulldown menus and links for the gray buttons at the top right of the page {trains.com sites; resources; Shop; email newsletters} don't work for me. WHat am I missing to make them work? Or don;t they work? SOme have suggested they do.

WE have AOL through Time Warner CAble RoadRunner.

Thanks for help

Just noticed something in Conversations. The photos I post don't show up. All I see after I post is the IMG tags with the link in between. When I tried to go back and edit it there was no was no way to do it. I had to write a new post in which the photo links were clickable.

Test post using Quick Reply.

Edit - Okay, no duplicate that way, but I couldn't back page out of the next page showing my post once it was up.

Tom,

Thanks for that - all sorted.  Although the fact that editing broke it is still a bug that needs to be fixed.

Cheers,

Danny

Danny:

I ran into the same problem when I posted in the Athearn Kits thread.  I hit the 'film' icon after I downloaded the photo from Photobucket, and I got the same 'moved or deleted' message.  I went back, edited, re-uploaded from Photobucket and ignored the 'film' icon at the top of the page, and the photo posted without any problem.  I think it's that little 'photo' icon under "Post Message" that's the problem.

Frankly, I think you can ignore that and upload photos just like we used to.

Here's another one.  I created a post (in the 'You made that from what' thread) containing the below photo (linked from Photobucket):

After posting, I edited the post to correct a typo.  Once I'd posted the edit, I saw that the photo had been replaced by the 'This photo has been moved/deleted' photobucket placeholder.  I went to re-edit the post, to find the photo showing as normal in the editing window.  Deleting and re-adding the photo had no effect - it was fine when editing the post, but the placeholder when posted.

I am finding duplicate posts of my own, and have had to delete duplicates for a couple of other members as well.  Something is weird.

Craig Kuhlow

Thanks for the heads up howmus.  I fixed the image edit bug as well as your previous post for you.  Let me know if you continue to have problems with this.  Thanks.

Thanks Craig!

I must say this upgrade has gone a lot smoother than the last one.  I do like many of the new things, such as the ability to go directly to the last post in a thread rather than arriving at the top of the page and having to scroll all the way down the page to be able to rad the one you want.  I also like that the date of the original post is shown on the forum list page as well as the date and time of the latest post.  Helps if you really aren't interested in a thread someone has brought back from 2004.....

Good to see the bugs taken care of quickly!

As far as I can tell, the edit preview "feature" does not actually provide a preview. It just opens a pop-up window which regurgitates the text, but doesn't include any linked or embedded content.

I'm hoping they change to a real preview feature. I don't see any real value to it as it is now.

Edit:

Or maybe not. Looks like they have fixed it.

Nope, not fully, anyway. Smilies still aren't graphical in edits.

Hmmmmm.  Seems to be a new bug around this morning!

I posted in the Diner Thread this morning and put a photo in my post.  Hit post and everything was fine.  Decided I wanted to edit my post, and when I posted the edit, the photo was not there, only the [ img] tags with the URL between.

Here is the photo:

OK, photo is showing.  Lets see what happens when I click post.....  Same thing happened!  No photo, just the [IMG ] tags with the URL.

Hmmm..  are you referring to the footer?  That is the only blue area that I see on a consistent basis throughout the site.  The areas has a dark blue background with links on the top that start with "Subscribe", "Renew", "Give a gift", etc...

Yes, it's the footer area.

Oh, and this smiley needs to be bigger:

Can we have an option to skip "Thank you.  Your message has been posted successfully" and just go back to the thread?  That's got very little value, and otherwise just burns bandwidth.

Agreed. That intermediate page seems quite silly.

I agree. It's quite annoying.

It may be a bit annoying, but I think it is nice to get some confirmation that your post was posted and hasn't disappeared into the nether regions of internet space as some have complained about here today! If you don't get that confirmation and had a looooong post, and you didn't save a copy of it to try to repost it, well....BTDT, and learned ot save a copy of every post before I send it off,,,

Howmus: We got spoiled witht he previous version, the "Quote Highlighted" was a nice feature, but this si the obnly forum I've ever seen do that, and only that one version. If we could have it, we'd love you guys eternally, but I sincerely doubt it's within our reach.

I agree- toss all of the other "feartures" and "improvements" and bring back the one that really mattered.

 MisterBeasley:

I just checked my regular e-mail inbox.

Please, please, PLEASE default "email me when someone replies" to OFF.

I second this motion. Having to unselect email option every time we post is annoying.

This should be a configurable option in your profile-- whether you want it to be on or off by default.

My own preference is for ON, I DO like automatically getting email replies when I post. But I understand that other people might have different preferences.

Actually, I thought it was a configurable option in the profile area or something.

Craig, This may not exactly be a "bug" but sure is annoying as all get out so it certainly "bugs" me as well as hearing others complain about it, as it was on the old forum this way too. I, and others I am sure, were hoping that this would be changed.

Is there ANY WAY to get it set so that the oversized pics that are posted in a thread do not cause the thread to "fall off the screen on the right side"???. I have a wide screen as it is, but still when an apparently oversized pic gets posted, it 'falls off" the side of the screen requiring one to use the slide bar at the bottom of the page to slide over and back and forth to read all the text in each posting within the thread on that page.

It is nice when a pic shows up a nice ordinary size in a thread with the tool bar on top to click on to "see the larger picture". Can't all pics be reformated automatically that way? SO they don't sometimes "fall off" the screen taking the words of postings on the whole page with it?

Thank you for your attention to this matter. WE would greatly appreciate it.

For something not yet covered...

The lifetime total number of forum postings is correct with what the public sees in the forum threads.  However, under "About Me" the total number is apx. 90% lower.

Is there a particular link that you are clicking that causes the color to change?  Just incase I'm missing it.  Also, could you provide what browser you are using?  Firefox?  IE?  Opera?  Chrome?  etc...

I'm back home now.  The footer issue appears to be an IE6 problem.  I don't have it here, with either IE8 or with Firefox.  I'll see about a screen shot tomorrow from work.

Bare with me.

 Hi Craig --

As the old chinese proverb says: "be careful what you wish for - you might get your wish fulfilled". I hope you won't mind too much if we bear with you instead  :-)

Anyways - I still dislike these things, also pointed out during beta testing:

 - quoting: not possible to quote just highlighted text, and  after you hit quote the page still jumps back to top (to the display of the post you are quoting) after quoting, instead of going to the start of the writing area

 - "wasting" (in my opinion) the first screenful of my personal opening screen by displaying old and already read personal messages/conversations and useless "Friends activity", instead of putting that useless (to me) stuff on the bottom, below the forum list.

Might not be configurable. But if they are, I would love to have those fixed - they make the forums clumsier to use.

Grin,
Stein

Can't do anything about the smiley's unless we get bigger ones.  The size that they are rendered out as are their actual sizes.  Making them bigger from those versions would make them look all pixelated and distorted.  I don't think anyone wants that Smile  Maybe at some point we'll get some bigger ones for you guys to play with.

I'm not sure what you are referring to with the footer.  All the links for me are rendered out as a light gray color.  See screenshot I provided below.

Is there a particular link that you are clicking that causes the color to change?  Just incase I'm missing it.  Also, could you provide what browser you are using?  Firefox?  IE?  Opera?  Chrome?  etc...

If you provide a screenshot that would be great as well.  Thanks.

Can't seem to edit anything in my profile, whenever I click on update profile I keep getting the same message: "The following errors were found in your form:

  • Maximum signature length is 512 characters."

I counted the characters and there's only about 260 characters and a small photo.

Hmm..  I think what's happening is that the code being used to generate the images in your signature are being counted as characters as well.  So one of your pictures could be resulting in around 100 characters of actual HTML to render out the image itself.  I changed the max character limit for signatures from 512 to 1000 so hopefully that will resolve the issue for you.  If you still have problems please let me know.  Thanks.
