Athearn - don´t ask for why - name this model DD-40. But it´s a DD35A.

The DD35 prototypes, #5653 and 5655, were two cabless DD35 mated with two GP35. Paint was red-white.
Only UP and SP ordered this cabless engines - The prototypes became UP# 72B and 73B - 25 more were built to UP and 3 for SP.

The DD35A cab series, UP #70 - #84, was delivered 8 month after the last DD35 in April 1965.

No more DD35A were ordered after the first, and so also last, order. All of this engines were scrapped.

Athearn offers the DD35 (DD-40) in many not real schemes, like Pennsylvania.

The brass engine I'm told is an Alco PA-1 is it worth anything? Do people collect the brass engines? It weighs a ton.

The Athearn box for the DD-40 says "UP" so I guess it's the widecab. Is this engine worth anything?

The DD40 is a never produced locomotive in EMD's Demonstrator paint scheme. UP did own the very similar DD40AX, which features a widecab, but iotherwise very close to the DD40 and UP and SP owned DD35A's and DD35's (The latter being cabless) which are the DD40AX's smaller siblings.

#603: build Sep 1947 builders # 74695 retired May 1965 and Traded to EMD in May 1965.

The DD-40 is painted in EMD's demonstrator scheme, EMD being the Electromotive division of General Motors who made this engine. I know Union Pacific ran these as well as a cabless B-unit like it. I'm not sure of other roads. I'm not familiar with the other engine.

I recently came into posession of two engines. One is an EMD DD-40 two motor. I have not seen one painted blue and white with only EMD logos? This one is. The box says Athearn #4285. The other engine is a Union Pacific it looks old Has a long nose . All the box says is BALBOA Precision engineered. Hand crafted of lifetime brass. #603 I suppose anyone can tell I don't know much about trains but I like them and am trying to learn.
