I have several Broadway Limited E/8/9s, and they all are like that. Humidity doesn't affect stainless steel. Temp probably does. When I get time, I'm going to take a file and file down the ends a few thousandths. That should eliminate the bowing.

I had the same problem when I first bought the Broadway E8 years ago. As others have stated, it is probably the humidity.  This will sound strange, but mine actually evened itself out once the heat wave left, I just adjusted it with my fingers and its been normal ever sine then. I didn't even have to glue it, it just stayed in place.

If you had it "shipped" to your location it may have gotten very warm enroute to you causing the metal grates to expand. We are having a bit of a heat wave in the eastern half of the country. I'd suggest giving it a few days to readjust to the temerature and humidity in your home before I did anything drastic.

I guess the easy answer is to glue it back down, but I was worried the glue wouldn't dry clear.  I've got to find a good glue.

Sounds like the grating may need to be removed and then glued back in place but before I did that I would give BLI a call. After all it is a brand new piece.

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?

Broadway Limited E9's metal grating

I have just purchased a Broadway Limited E9ABA set that was brand new (even though it was released in 05).  But when I got it out of the package the metal grating along the side of the engines are bowing out in areas.  Basically, the same effect when you try to put something flexible in an area that it doesn't fit in.  I push down on the area and it bows out in another area.  Is there a way to fix this?
