Fritz,
That was a nice modular display. My son loved it (although not as much as the Lego layout, kids, what can you do). Sorry to hear about the loss.
There is an event in Owosso Michigan this year on the 23 of October called Autumn In Alma. It will feature NKP 765. The event is put on by the Steam RR Institute. The train runs from Owosso to Alta, Michigan and back. It leaves Owosso at 9am. I think coach seats are $99.00.
FlashwavefmilhauptTrain Festival 2009 was the last time my club showed its HO display layout publically before it was stolen. From the Festival? (he says, not recalling hearing of that there) Were you guys the ones in the corner by the engien shops, who were having fits with the uneven ground?

Yup, that was us at the end of the tent near the engine house.
The layout was stolen while it was sitting in a trailer a couple weeks after Train Festival, about 50 miles south of Owosso. It was parked out behind a member's machine shop. The driveway where we normally stored it between shows was occupied by a demolition bin while the ancient farm house on the property was being torn down.
The police figure it was one of those cases they've been seeing the past couple of years where people were stealing trailers to sell to the folks who have been moving south as the auto jobs dried up. If the thieves thought they might get some contractor tools as a bonus, they were certainly disappointed- they got racks of modules, some setback stanchions and plastic chain. We figure the modules were dumped in a field somewhere. There was no insurance- the premium would have cost more than we take in each year.
We've begun to rebuild. We had enough in the treasury to either build a bunch of new modules or to buy a replacement trailer, so we chose to build new modules. When we earn enough to replace the trailer, we plan to do so.
We'll be showing the initial results of the rebuild at our train show on November 28 in Saline, Michigan.

To be certain you're getting the right event when you search, look for "Train Festival", not TrainFest. The folks who put on TrainFest in the Milwaukee area are rather particular about their ownership of the term, so Jason Johnson and the others involved in the various Train Festivals have been careful to maintain the distinction...

Train Festival 2011 is scheduled for July 21-24 in Rock Island, Illinois.
wrumbel I think that was a once in a life time thing. Wayne

The part about 8 steam locos in a two acre park was, but TrainFest itself was not. Let me dig out the info, I believe TrainFest2010 was in Virginia last month. It had to do with that repainted B&O F unit. It was a small affair. The way I understand how TrainFest works, the brandname is used by Jason Johnson and a few other guys he's worked with, and is used when they can put an event together. Hence, the event is not a regular thing all of the time. I beleive TrainFest2009 was something like the 4th iteration, there was one hosted by Ohio Central, and many of those volunteers came back to host the Owosso event, but there's been one or two others previous to that.
EDIT: Yep, 25th-27th of June, Sorry. Here's the info: http://www.wvrails2010.com/ And the placeholder from TrainFest 2009: http://trainfestival2009.com/
I attended the fest last year, but as said earlier, it's a "traveling show". I haven't looked, but you might find some references to last year's by going on the GTW Historical society's website. Another possible is Google "Durand Station" as that's where the diamond is that access had to be granted by CN so they could get #4449 to Owosso.

Flashwave Not surpriseing, as TrainFest is off to a new location this year. I was however, a volunteer there for the weekend, What do you want to know?

I guess I thought it was an Owosso event and didn't know it was a traveling show. I also think it was actually known as the Train Festival - but in either case, I can't seem to find anything about about it on line and wanted to attend this year.
If you can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.
There's never time to do it right, but always time to do it over.....
Dues anyone know anything about Trainfest which was held last year in Owosso, Michigan. There don't appear to be any links for it at all.
