Blair Line Kits
Posted by Fergmiester on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 6:28 AM
I was in the LHS yesterday and there was a Blair Line kit of a General Store for $38 Cdn. Can anyone tell me as to the quality and difficulty of these kits?

Is Blair line this obscure? The photo on the box looks really good and I would really like some feedback

Sorry to be a pain

My memory is old and failing me rapidly but if I recall, Blair is an old and reputable line and should be a good kit. I don't have any personal experience but from reading 40 years worth of MR, I seem to recall they have had a good reputation.

Tanks Fiatfan

It's a wood kit and looks like it will take some time. I've built several wooden boats in my day and I found scratch easier then kit, especially Billings. as none of the peices matched up and the instructions were wrong. Therefore my feelings towards wood kits in general became jaundiced

I haven't built one of their buildings yet, but I have modified one of their trestle kits, and built one of their truck dumps, both in N-scale. Both kits had excellent quality. While construction was pretty involved due to all of the pieces, it wasn't difficult to put together a nice model. I wish I had some places for some Blair Line structures on my layout now.

I've built their N scale church. A good quality well designed kit.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

If you like to scratchbuild, do that. Its twice the fun to design and build what will be an absolutely unique structure. And to do it for 1/3 the cost of a kit.

These are very good kits that are fun to build. Try one, you'll probably want to build another.
