Club in Austin, Texas area
Posted by pkazmir on Sunday, June 20, 2004 10:23 PM
Hi!

I guess this is worth a shot...

I've been living in the Austin (Texas) area for several years now, and I've been unsuccessful at finding an club which matches my interests.

I model Mopac in the early 80's (right before the merger) - at least, I've been planning to for years. I've finally got a little bit of room and am planning an around-the-walls switching layout in HO (about 20-24 linear feet). I grew up near Baton Rouge on the Addis-New Orleans main line (my house was literally three blocks from the tracks and about 15 minutes by bike to the Addis yard).

I also volunteer (unfortunately not often enough) on the Austin Steam Train here in Cedar Park (well, currently the Austin Diesel Train <g> as poor 786 is being overhauled...check out http://austinsteamtrain.org).

There's a pretty good group of NTrakers and a group of G scale modelers here in Austin, and I know there are a lot of other model railroaders (including some pretty fameous ones!), but no clubs modeling HO that I know of.

So...anyone interested in starting one? Don't have room (like me) to build that empire you've been dreaming of? This might be our chance...shoot me an email!

(Like it said...it was worth a shot! <g>)

I might be interested. I am just getting started on my first layout, HO 4x8 with my grandson. Have looked around for folks interested in HO in the Austin area. Not sure what I could contribute, but who knows. I'm in the NW Austin area. Anyone else?

John
