I don't know, but it has to be bad. UP9899(?) the modern UP lovin' teen said some pretty insane stuff last time I saw him here. I don't know if he erased it or Bergie. I havent heard anything from him since.

I think we'd all be banned by now if Begie inforced that.[;)]

I've noticed most of the time people just leave before Bergie can say something.

Well, there was a guy on the Trains magazine forums that got banned-and rightfully so! He was a psychopath named Robert Pines who used the screen name missouri. He started several topics ranting on about how grade crossing accidents are the railroads' fault and that the railroads are run by evil, murderous monsters, etc., etc. The topics are still on there if you search for them. He certainly got a lot of tempers flared and if you read any of his posts I think you'll agree with me that the man is dangerous and should be locked up in an insane asylum. Bergie had initially given him a "time out" for a weekend, but he came back under the name missouri2 and after he was taken off again he came back as missouri3. It was at this point that he was permanently banned from ever visiting trains.com again.

In a nutshell:

Don't flame people. (O.K to "Disagree", but not "Disrespect"!)

Don't deliberately taunt fellow posters to make them "flare up". This is wasted energy that accomplishes nothing and degrades the good quality of this forum.

Poor Doggy got banned. I enjoyed some of his posts. He was a good guy that flared up emotionally once too often. Got several members agittated. Some of his points were good, but had a tendency to post them with an "in your face" attitude.

Cheers and 10-4!

[#ditto] on Antonio's reply and the others also. Just a thought here. One bad thing about forums like this, is that we become acquianted with each other ( but not fully ) over a period of time and all we have is type written words to each other, that sometimes is read with different meanings than was intended by the writer. Some have eluded to remove the "smiley faces" and I'm against that because it can be a valuable tool to help to show or project a comment for they way it was meant. Anyhow, I think the moderators do a pretty good job in keeping things under control and commend them for it. Thanks, Ken

Cody, this is a good question. The responses make some good and important points. Another thing to remember is that in a forum such as this, all we have to go on are the words that have been used. In normal conversation we have facial expression, tone of voice and body language, all of which help to convey meaning and attitude. Here all we have is word choice so it's really is critical. As Antonio said, it's ok to disagree, but not to disrespect.
Have Fun,
Tom Watkins

Thanks Tom,

Re: UP9899. I could be mistaken but he left or got banned, but has come back with a new name (AC44..something?). Recently this person referred to someone as "dumb". Based on the word pattern , it "appeared" like his style. But again, I could be mistaken. If so, my apolgies to the person. [8)]

Regardless, I've enjoyed this forum and learned a great deal here. Guys like Dave9999, Bill Matthewson, NHRRJet, BentnoseWillie, Dougal, ErieDiamond, Don Gibson, and countless others, have made this forum a very valueble learning and enrichment resource. [4:-)][tup]

I've also been flamed twice in the past year. I've responded to the "flamers" firmly but yet, without calling them names (jerk, idiot, stupid, moron, the "F" word, etc.)----------so useless! Name calling, disrespecting or "flaming" only degrades the high quality of this forum. [B)]

Why fuel the fire? Either giving a cool response, or ignoring the flamer altogether pretty much puts it out! If the poster's info is not of value to you or if you know that your response will likely make the person start "blow torching" you, ignore it and move on to another post. [;)]

I'm only a fellow modeler, but it's always my suggestion that we respect each other. Keeps this very enjoyable. [:)][tup][C):-)][tup][:D][tup][8D][tup][swg]

Cheers with an E-7 in Run 8!

Ditto to that Antonio. This forum really is a great place, so long as we don't start any "bonfires".[;)]

Me personally, I don't like to cause trouble at least intentionally. On rare times I have said somethings (not on the forum) that should not have been said but have apologied for it later. If I criticise anything, it will be done with diplomacy and respect. That is my philosophy.
