Take a Train to Work Day
Posted by Sperandeo on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 9:04 AM
We at MODEL RAILROADER are interested in hearing from people who participated in Take a Train to Work Day on Thursday, Nov. 15 (or any other day). What did you take, how did it go, were your co-workers interested, and do you have any stories to tell?

If you didn't want to do it that's fine, I'm sure you have your reasons and we're okay about that.

If you did join in, though, please take a couple of minutes to share your experiences. We're planning to make this an annual event and what you learned can make next time that much better.

Thanks,

Andy Sperandeo

I didn't specifically do it November 15th, because I do it every day. I took an old solid-wood 9"x11" wall plaque. I added felt feet on the back. Then I laid a section of track on cork roadbed, added ballast and grass. Then I mounted a Bachmann 8-40CW custom painted in MoPac "Screaming Eagle" blue, and a open coal hopper car. (The loco had died) I use the hopper car to hld my business cards, and have the scene laying on my desk at work. The kids that come in live it, and it starts many conversations.

Andy, I unfortunately was unaware of the 15th as "Take a train to work day". I do however, take the Metrolink here in Los Angeles about twice a month.
Probably should be a weekly thing...much like they have here in SoCal, "Rideshare Thursday" to encourage carpooling.

I have something of trains laying around the office and or shop that I work on at break time or read! I model in N scale and most people who are use to seeing the department store trains are amazed that something so small runs! I also found that You can find others who like trains by displaying something train related. I had an MR Mag. on my desk and our A/C Tech. said I model in O scale what do you model? We have been friends since! It's great to know a hobby can be a good way to meet friends!!!!! Chris Hanson
