Or changing modeling directions and selling off what he can't use..
I know a once big E-L fan that changed directions and sold and traded off all his models and E-L books and videos to raise the needed cash in needed for his new interest-GWI's Arkansas,Louisiana & Mississippi .
Frank told it was love at first sight when he happen across AL&M while on vacation.

Can't believe no one took any pictures and/or videos of the layout while at an OpSession or layout openhouse.
I got the VHS from Allen Keller and it was ok. Seemed really bland in terms of operation and enthusiasm. Can't believe I payed 15 bucks for a vhs. I'm really shocked he charges 45 bucks for a DVD. I mean come on, model railroading shouldn't have to be expensive in every little aspect.
I hope Doug Tagsold builds another masterpiece layout soon. I need to get hold of a copy of Model Railroad Planning 2010. I think it shows the layout before it was dismantled...
I believe Doug still reads the Rio Grande Yahoo Groups email list. He was selling off most of his D&RGW library of books and mentioned he was down sizing there. I bought a video tape of movies he shot of the D&RGW in 1991. He used to duplicate and sell them.

All I've ever known about is his HO Scale DFRW layout. I just got my GMR 2002 in to see a little more of they layout. I think MRR did a better job of covering the layout in the Aug 99 magazine then they did in the annual release of GMR (02). Figures...
I need to find a way to get in touch with Doug, I have some questions about his layout (technical and whatnot) and there's some scenes on the layout that I havent seen much of or any at all.
If memory serves, I believe Doug Tagsold had three fine layouts, so presumably all three are dismantled. What I do not know is what coverage the other two layouts received in the model press. I seem to recall one was tinplate/hi-rail.

The online articles - how were they?
Were those online articles any good?
Anyone know of how he dismantled/discarded the layout? I hope he salvaged as much as possible. I'd be interested in purchasing some of the diesels. lol
I went ahead and bought the 2002 issue of Great Model Railroads from Railpub.com
Hopefully, it will arrive soon. Can't wait to check out the DFR&W from different views.
I dont think Allen Keller made that one into a dvd. Which is a shame, it was one of the best ones out of all the MRR layouts he covered in his videos.
Gah I would love to see what those online articles were all about.
I meant no harm. I was just ranting. I think I'm going to purchase this VHS tomorrow and then have it converted to dvd.
It's a shame that the DFR&W is no more. :(
That layout is very inspirational to me.
As for downsizing...I think I would have made it bigger. That location is awesome and would have been perfect for expanding the model. It's heartbreaking to see the dismantling/scrapping of a great layout. :(
Keith120286 It doesnt surprise me. I'm pretty sure the majority of model railroaders are old timers that still swear by the primitive VHS tapes. Reminds me of those still latching onto DC instead of making the obviously viable switch to DCC.

Let's not unearth that hoary old subject again, okay? Besides, I've converted all of my old VHS's into DVD's. Did so the year the first DVD recorder/players came out. And I'm a 70-year old DC'er.
And yes, I have a cell phone and a Blackberry.

Doug posted to the D&RGW email list saying that he is moving and down sizing, and will be dismantling his layout soon, if not already. He did awesome work but I guess this happens most/all layouts eventually.
I'd love to see more photo's - his model RR represents the time period and location that is my favorite.
Keith120286I've known about that video for sometime now. The only thing that kept me from making the purchase is that its VHS. I havent used a vhs tape since about 1999. I guess I could buy it since its pretty cheap and have it converted onto dvd.

Yes I was surprised at the VHS tape also, why they don't convert that do DVD. It's 2010 already...

I found this video you can buy for cheap. Here
Thanks, but I don't currently have a subscription. I'll probably get one again soon but MRR just doesnt seem to be covering too much of interest to me in the past few years. I do get alot of back issues though. I'll be sure to get any magazine with articles by Pelle Soeborg in it.
Here's one from feb of this year

Anybody have pictures or anything pertaining to his HO scale layout that was in GNR 2002 and a 99 ise of MRR mag? I love this layout and I was wanting to see more of it from different angles and perspectives. Also, does Doug have a website dedicated to his layout(s)? He seems to be a phantom model railroader (I can't find much of his stuff online)
