Marlin.

Install all the screws you already removed except for the coupler screws. Turn the trucks to the side and you will see one screw under the rear axle under each truck. Remove them and wiggle the shell off. They are well hidden under the trucks. The shell comes off easier with the weight attached to the frame.

Thanks a lot for posting solution. It really helped me.

By the way those screws that marked by yellow arrows may stay in place if one needs to remove shell only.

Mystery solved!

  • Green arrows show where coupler screws attach.
  • Yellow arrows show where screws that attach the weight to the frame are.
  • Orange arrows show where body shell screws are. There are two, and they are located in small wells underneath the inboard ends of the trucks

You have to remove the "small screws" near the fuel tank and truck assembly.

In need of help in removing Proto 2000 GP38-2 shell

I've followed the instructions that came with a Proto 2000 GP38-2 to remove the shell. It won't come off! [banghea] Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to force anything, BTDT with bad results. I've removed the screws they say to remove as shown in the pictures below. The two screws in the fuel tank only hold the tank in place. Removing them only uncovers the motor mounting rubber feet.
