CSX -----> UP? Or is it UP ---------> CSX?
Posted by JPowell on Friday, June 11, 2004 8:01 PM
Heard from a reliable source that :
1 - This has happened
2 - This is happening
or
3 - This is going to happen this year....

Anyone got any scoop on this?

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Won't happen unless they want to start Penn Central 2 and put more trucks on the road. The only merger that will work if it happened right now would be NS/BNSF

1. It hasn't happened.
2. Its not happening.
3. Its not going to happen this year.

Just save this thread since this same or has popped up every year for the past decade or two.

There's been rumors that BNSF is going to merge with NS since the BN era. After the CP Rail/BNSF merger was killed, I doubt any more mergers will happen, unless CN tries something stupid, which I again highly doubt will happen.

Railroads, after all, can only get so big before every line they own is duplicate trackage with another line.

I'm sure in 15 years or so they're will be 2 railroads in the US, Canada, and maybe even Mexico, but for now they're shouldn't be any.

Rumors only.

According to documented reports CSX and NS, while profitable, are still feeling the "financial pinches" of the "Conrail Carve-up".

I don't forsee the Surface Transportation Board allowing either the BNSF and UP merging with NS or CSX respectively.
