C&NW F7 in N-scale?
Posted by MAbruce on Friday, November 23, 2001 5:41 PM
Con-Cor has released an N-scale C&NW Bi-level Gallery commuter car, and I can't seem to locate an F7 in C&NW. Anyone know if there was ever (or will be) one? I remember (as a kid) they occasionally put E8's in front of them, but mostly F7's.

Back when N scale was just getting started, Atlas imported an "F9" that was available in C&NW. I think these were made by Roco or possibly Rivarossi. The motor was terrible. I have never even seen one on eBay. I still have one that was lettered CP that I repainted and detailed PRR, replacing the motor with a Sagami. Looks like you are going to have to learn how to paint and decal if you want a C&NW F7.

I was afraid you'd have to go back that far! Any suggestions for material on learning to paint & decal engines in N-scale?

There have been numerous articles in "Model Railroader" about painting specific engines.. The only book I can think of offhand was a book on detailing N scale Diesels published by Ntrak a few years ago. To see if it's still available try www.ntrak.org (I ihink, if not ask for "NTrak" on "Google"). I learned how to paint and decal assembling wooden Strombecker model airplane kits back in the "dark ages"! Anyway, it was over a half century ago!

Thank you!

PS: Strombecker model planes? A bit before my time.
