George, the layout is K-10 Model Trains in Maryville IL. I was surprised that Dewan was not running a train. During open house for $2.00 you can watch trains, for $5.00 K-10 supplies a radio throttle, engine and rolling stock. Or as in my case you can bring your own engine and rolling stock.

If you drop by, you sure can run the Big Boy, after Dewan is done of course. Big Smile

Packers#1, '

I just went from scratch, I wanted just an overall dirty look and not warn down, ready for the scrap yard. It is actually a locomotive that does not fit in my era (1950's). My 2'x8' shelf layout is almost ready for track. pictures of that wlll be posted soon.

 Jeff

ah. I like the weathering job and the locomotive type. looking forward to seeing pics of that layout when you get around to it!

Nice work as usual there, DC! :)

Thanks, Robert, and thanks for looking.

This is my favorite thread.  I  love looking at all the great photos of the jaw dropping creations.  I'm looking forward to your pics in WPF some day.Smile

The interior is removable. The partitions/rooms are built into one piece that can be taken out to change passengers, fix or modify something.  The walls, glazing and shades are built into removable overlays, so I can easily fix a window, if need be. There's 15 SMT LEDs, with a super capacitor for flicker free, regulated lighting. It stays lit for about 10 secs after power is removed.  It works great on AC, DC or DCC.

Later,

DC

Best part of this Easter Sunday is it all so open house at K-10 model Trains. I love to watch the trains but to be honest I hate running there! Track is 80 X 61 feet and to follow the train you have to craw under the bench to keep up with the train. I no longer craw well, well getting down is easy! Whistling

I did take my PCM Big Boy, I have never ran it at K-10 and I wanted to see how she do. Got her on the track and to the UP yard and given a ore car drag, guessing around 40 cars. I asked if I could have another 40 cars but was told no. With so many younger operators train sizes where held to around 40 cars.

Started to take the drag around the layout and there was some younger kids there that had never seen a sound steam engine or a Big Boy. One young man named Dewan ask me a lot of questions and I told him what I know about Big Boys. Dewan followed me about half way around then moved on. As I was passing the UP yard I saw Dewan, or should I say he saw the Big Boy. He was standing with his uncle. I introduced my self to Scott and asked him if  Dewan could run the Big boy for me?

Ken, where is this great place where youngsters get to run other peoples trains? Most places the attitude runs from "Hey kid, keep your hands my train!" to "Touch my train and you DIE!!!!!!!!!"     AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryDead

If I drop by, can I run your Big Boy also? Tongue Whistling

Sneaking under the wire, just wanted to show what I built this weekend.

The first "domino" for my new layout. It's 2'x4' and track height will be 54" off the floor. Yes, I know that seems high, but my last layout was that height and I liked it.

Great Jobs guys!

Rather than blowing your servers to the moon with all the photos I got of the RR Merit Badge, http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/p/172034/1888474.aspx#1888474 , I will show you all some new scenery I have recently done.

I stained the rock, and put it in all in a day. I found that there was a huge gap between plaster cloth and plaster rock, so, ironically, I filled the gap with the same substance I made the one-time-use mold out of, playdoh!

And, I had to post this picture of myself from the merit badge tour.

For those looking in still, the new 'rule of business' for this thread, as of a year ago now, is that it gets locked on Tuesday night.  One of the parting gifts from good old Bergie. Cool

Had the best weekends I have had for months. First I got some more work done on the new spur. Think I got the ballast done and started on a wood crossing for the tractor trailers. Got the beginning of the gravel road using sand, need to fine tune it. Feel free Sawyer and others to give tips.

Daughter came over for Easter Lunch? (we ate at 1:00 PM) We started talking about her old Star War collection (she is 36, am I that old? Confused ) I knew right where it was! Any one know how to clean a Wookie? Plus I need to build a new radar array for the Millennium Falcon.

Best part of this Easter Sunday is it all so open house at K-10 model Trains. I love to watch the trains but to be honest I hate running there! Track is 80 X 61 feet and to follow the train you have to craw under the bench to keep up with the train. I no longer craw well, well getting down is easy! Whistling

This Dewan in the blue and white strip shirt.

He picked up his own brake man, the smaller boy on his side of the track.

You guys should figure out why I posted this picture!  Whistling And she was running a train!

Heading by the grain elevators coming up on the passenger station.

Next heading toward the steel mill, you cannot see the mill in the picture. Brakeman keeping a close eye on the turnouts.

 Here the mill

Brakeman watch the Big Boy going by the UP yard.

Big Boy heading toward the main.

Went way to fast for me, only about a hour before Yardmaster said we had to bring the ore train back to the yard. Sad  Dewan was able to back up the train through some switches with no derailments! Way to go Dewan! I was told the ore cars are a pain in the cabooses to back up!

I got Scott E Mail address and he comes to the site. I hope Dewan gets to see the pictures! I all so hope I can work something out with Scott so next month I can use Dewan as my engineer! Big Smile

With some luck Scott and Dewan live close by. One of the reasons I enjoy Simon 1966 and his Lads come over. There is nothing like the smile of a child faces to make your problems not seem important!

Cuda Ken having a blast again.

Happy Easter,

Well I just got back from my trip to CT. We left at 2 am on Friday morning. At about 5:20 am, we stopped at a rest area just east of Utica, NY were I found this reefer trailer sitting under a street light begging for me to take its' picture:

I know it's not much, but maybe someone modeling intermodal could use it.

Great work everyone!

Of course the Village of Seneca Falls was located in the Town of Seneca Falls which now has jurisdiction, so I guess it is still Seneca Falls, just not "The Village of Seneca Falls".

That is almost as convoluted as a bill submitted to the Maine House by a represnative from a northern Maine town. The bill proposed to split the state in two; the north part being called Maine and the south part North Massachusetts. Fortunately, the house committee declared the bill DOA. DeadDeadDead

Town consolidations were common years ago. The Town of Bristol, Maine where I live was formed about 100 years ago from the following villages: Bristol, Bristol Mills, Pemiquid, Pemiquid Falls, Pemiquid Harbor, New Harbor, Chamberlain, Round Pond, and a couple of others. South Bristol did not join this, and today remains a separte entity. One of the reasons for the consolidation was to fund and operate a consolidated middle and high school. Young kids still walked to their village elementary school, the olders, if they were good, got to ride horseback to the new school. Sound familiar??? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Thanks very much Ray and Frank, much appreciated.

I may come back and add some figures and a boat in the future Frank but for right now I am eager to go back to my usual modeling scale and leave this one behind for a while.
